Thomas G. Myer

Thomas G. Myer, age 50, of Zanesville, Ohio, died suddenly in Prescott, AZ., while attending the annual Zane Grey Convention. He was born May 27, 1953, in Zanesville, Ohio the son of Don F. and Madge P. Barr Myer. Mr. Myer was a meter electrician for AEP, a member of the First Christian Church- Disciples of Christ, where he served as a Deacon, a volunteer for the West Muskingum Athletic Boosters and West Muskingum Twisters and Vice President of the Zane Grey West Society.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela J. Kinney Myer, whom he married June 1, 1974 of the home, his parents, Don F. and Madge Barr Myer of Zanesville, a daughter, Mindy S. Myer of the home, a son, Nicholas A. Myer of the home, one sister Teresa (Norman) Auldridge of Salem VA.,one grandson, Gavin A. Myer of the home, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003 at the First Christian Church- Disciples of Christ with the Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave. Zanesville, Ohio entrusted with arrangements. No calling hours will be observed. A caring cremation will take place.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Zane Grey Museum in Norwich Ohio.

Sarah Grove
Sarah Grove,age 86, of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Willow Haven Nursing Home. She was born September 1, 1916 in New Straitsville, Ohio the daughter of the late Frank and Martha Smith Grant. Mrs. Grove was a former waitress, a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and a Foster Grandparent at Genesis Bethesda Hospital.

Surviving are a daughter Betty L. Wilson of Zanesville, grandson, James H. Hinkle of Chillicothe and several nieces and nephews

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther M. Grove, who died July 25, 1980, a daughter Shirley A. Hinkle, by four sisters, Kathryn Kinnen, Laura Dutro, Mary Easter and Violet Wilson, three brothers, Russell Grant, James Grant and Thomas Grant.

No calling hours will be observed. A caring graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, with the Vicar James Eggert officiating. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville is in charge of all arrangements.

Robert E. Lucas

Robert E. Lucas, 80, of Zanesville, died at 11:40 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. He was born March 8, 1923 at Muskingum Co., Ohio a son of the late Rolley and Lenna  Jones Lucas. He retired as a Bus Mechanic for Y-City Transit Co, was a member of Mt. Sterling united Methodist Church, a World War II Army Veteran, D.A.V., POW, Lifetime member of American Legion, and was known as the Lawn Mower Man, because he loved to fix other peoples lawn mowers.

Surviving are three daughters, Sue ( Ted ) Clark, of Zanesville and Charlotte Harbor, Fla, Karen ( Jeff ) Adair of Zanesville and Sharon ( Daniel ) Thiesen of White Cottage, two sons; Donald ( Nora ) Lucas of Gallipolis and Dick ( Ronda ) Lucas of Norwich, former wife, Mary E. Lucas of Zanesville, three sisters; Kathleen Wilkins of Woodstock, Georgia, Lillian ( Joseph )  Jones of Danville, VA. and Emma Sue ( Roger ) Johnston of Zanesville, daughter-in-law; Roberta " Bobbi " Lucas of Zanesville, eleven grandchildren; Kevin Clark, Staci Maynard, Donald Lucas, Jr., Brian Lucas, Michael Lucas, Sue Ann Lucas, Rachel Kirby, Jeffrey Adair, Justin Adair, David Paul and Thomas Paul, seven step-grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death besides his parents, one son, Terry " Butch" Lucas, an infant daughter, and sister Charlotte Hartman.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2003 with Rev. Charles Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery, Hopewell, Ohio.VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military rites at the grave.

Edward J. Sorrell

Edward J. Sorrell, age 92, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away at 8:22 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Genesis Bethesda Hospital. He was born July 9, 1911 in Glouster Ohio the son of the late Bert and Martha Williams Sorrell. Mr. Sorrell retired 1976 as a maintenance supervisor in the Machine Shop at the Brockway Glass Co.after 44 years of service. He was a member of the Coburn United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Amity # 5 F & AM, a member of Rosa Shrine # 8, a member of the Y Bridge Holiday Ramblers 333 and the Brockway Glass Camping Club.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Best Sorrell whom he married July 22, 1933 of the home, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marguerite Smith, Cathryn Angle and Maxine Jackson.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Bolin Funeral Home with the Dr. Dennis Baker officiating. Masonic services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Ronald L. Barnhart
Ronald L. Barnhart, 63, of Zanesville died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2003 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born August 21, 1940 at Zanesville a son of the late Charles and Alice Morris Barnhart. He has worked at Burnham Boiler.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda J. Brown Barnhart, whom he married January 16, 1960, two sons, Rick ( Christine ) Barnhart and Ronald Barnhart both of Zanesville, three daughters, Kathy ( Ted ) Watkins, Cheryl Bryant and Teresa Barnhart all of Zanesville, eight grandchildren, Jonathan McConiha, David McConiha, Anthony Robinson, Danielle Barnhart, Kenneth Watkins, Wanda& Christopher Bryantand Ronnie Barnhart, two great grandchildren, one sister, Eileen Maxwell of Zanesville.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by grandson, Robert Barnhart, five brothers, Charles, Jimmy, Bob, Earl and Dwight Barnhart, two sisters, Margaret " Jane " Barnhart and LaVerna Barnhart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Falls Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Wednesday.

Rana Edwards
Rana E. Edwards, age 94, of Canton Ohio, former longtime Zanesville resident, passed at 3:00 a.m. Friday 28, 2003 at the Mercy Hospice-McKinley Life Care Center in Canton Ohio. She was born September 1, 1909 in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Henderson Stubblefield. Mrs. Edwards was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she became the Minister of Music on Easter Sunday in 1940 and continued for 55 years before retiring. She was also a member of the Missionary Society of St. Paul A. M. E. Church and the first black member of the Thursday Music Club. For many years she taught piano lessons to many area children and held music recitals and she played for graduating classes at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, weddings and special programs. She graduated from St. Francis Academy, a Catholic junior college for girls in Baltimore, MD. in 1930 majoring in music; but included studies in botany, biology, chemistry, Latin, Spanish and other required courses. She attended Zanesville Technical College for post-graduate study in general studies, and in 1969 she was hired as an instructor assistant at the Starlight School where she taught home living and played for the Girls Choir for approximately 11 years. After leaving Zanesville, Rana moved to live with her daughter in Navarre, Ohio and began playing for an adult day care center called SARAH Center, (Senior Adult Recreation & Healthcare). She played the piano for SARAH Center and the children's day care center at the same site until her health declined; however, she contined to play for the nursing home residents until approximately six months ago due to declining health. In 1994 she received the outstanding service award in music circles for the City of Zanesville.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen (James) Knox of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Saundra Edwards of Cleveland, and Anne (Walter) Harper of Navarre Oh., one son, William Anthony ( Delores) Edwards of Zanesville, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren,one great great grandchild, daughter-in-law, Jane Edwards of Zanesville, sister-in-law, Clara Gray of Elyria and nieces, nephews and others.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harley William Edwards who died September 19, 1945, by one daughter Tina Edwards, by three sons, Arlie Paul Edwards, James Tousaint Edwards, and David Lee Edwards, by one sister Emily and two brothers, Carl Stubblefield and Edgar Henderson.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday December 3rd at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the St Paul A.M.E. Church, 561 Pine St., Zanesville, with the Rev. Clifton Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Starlight School or to the St. Paul A.M.E. Church.

Naomi G. Hinton

Naomi G. Hinton, 71, of Hopewell died at 6:22 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born May 23, 1932 at Frankfort, Ohio a daughter of the late Archie Delbert and Emma I. Welch Clark. She bagged mulch for the Mulch Manufacturing at Pataskala.

Surviving are three daughters, Kathey ( Harold ) Colbird of Columbus, Renee ( Mike ) Harrier of and Lisa ( James ) Harris both of Zanesville, eight grandchildren, Tommy L. Roberts Sr., Nicole Thomson, Shawn ( Valerie) Roberts, Brian Harrier, Ashley Harrier, Cierra Warne, Lonnie Warne Jr., and Destiney Hinton, twelve great grandchildren, Crystal Roberts, Tommy Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Bradon Roberts, Angel Hashman, Bradley Hashman, William Thomson, Shawn Roberts, Raven Daugherty, Christopher Daugherty, and Madison Roberts.

She was preceded in death besides her parents, her husband, Donald D. Hinton, who died October 6, 1992, two sisters, Mary Katherine Clark and Helen Marie Clark, three sons, Clarence Fred Clark, Delbert Allen Clark and infant baby clark.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Burial will follow at Glen Rest Estates at reynoldsburg, Ohio. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Joel Buckles

Joel E. Buckles, 57 of Columbus, Ohio died at 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Grant Hospital, Columbus. He was born May 3, 1947 at Fostoria, Ohio son of Paul E. Buckles and the late Doris A. Aycock Buckles. He was a Catholic by faith and was a LPN having worked at several locations including, Bethesda Hospital, Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville and in private duty. Joel was a graduate of Zanesville High School 1964, went to Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, attended Hocking Technical College and graduated from Mid-East Ohio Vocational School as a LPN..He was extremely proud of being a LPN, was devoted to his pets and enjoyed attending to his flowers.

Surviving are his father and step-mother, Paul E. & Maxine Buckles of Zanesville, brother, Ronald E. ( Teresa Lozier) Buckles of Columbus, three nephews, Aaron Buckles of Columbus, Brandon Buckles and Jason Buckles both of Pataskala, Aunt, Mary Ann Buckles of LeRoy, Ill., four cousins, Chris ( Joyce ) Buckles of Mansfield, Ill, James ( Mary Lou ) Aycock of San Antonio, Tx, Richard P. ( Patty ) Aycock of Port Orchard, Washington and Dale ( Linda ) Aycock of Ankeny, Iowa, special friend Margaret Jenkins of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Buckles, who died September 12, 1997.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Fr. Luke Turon, O.P. officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time.

Beatrice Wolfe

Beatrice Redman Wolfe, 93, of 908 Cherokee Trail, Covington, VA, died Friday, November 21, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Kathy Wolfe of Zanesville. She was born April 16, 1910 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late James Ecan and Bertha  Johnson Redman. She was a member of the Highland Chapel Christian Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Doris Eller of Toledo, OH; Brenda Cade of Covington, VA, Kathy Wolfe of Zanesville, OH and Carol (Gary) Persinger of Austin, TX; three sons, Melvin (Mary) Wolfe; Hank (Barbara) Wolfe all of Roanoke, VA and Richard (Marlene) Wolfe of Covington, VA; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; One great great granddaughter; one sister, Lorraine Wolfe of Covington; two brothers, Horace Redman of Covington and Harding Redman of Broken Arrow,  Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Wolfe, in 1969 and also by three sisters, Opbelia Redman, Beulah Lochart and Florilla Clark and two brothers, Raymond Redman and Randolph Redman.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, Covington, VA with the Rev. J. B. Broughman officiating Burial will be in Lone Star Cemetery.

Bolin Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

JOY E. VAN HORN

Joy E. Van Horn, 73, of Zanesville, died at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, November 23, 2003 at Genesis Good Samaritan emergency room. She was born March 7, 1930 at Zanesville, a daughter of the late Earl and Gladys M. Spargrove. She was a graduate of Lash High School Class of 1948, a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, cooking, baking and the company of her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Robert O. Van Horn, whom she married June 24, 1949, 4 sons, Douglas R. ( Brenda ) Van Horn of Zanesville, Craig S. ( Ursula ) Van Horn of Granville, Keith J. (Patty) Van Horn and Kevin ( Sandra ) Van Horn both of Zanesville, 7 grandchildren, Dawn Van Horn, Brian Van Horn, Adam Van Horn, Angela Van Horn, Kasey Van Horn, Erica Van Horn and Natalie Van Horn, two great grandchildren, Jaden Van Horn and Connor J. Gates, one sister, Edna Bresock of Zanesville.

She was preceded in death besides her parents, by two brothers, Dale & Carlos Spargrove, one sister Doris Lemmon.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 at The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2003 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Richard R. Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.
