James W. Davis II

James Walter Davis II, 49, of Zanesville died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2004 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. He was born August 9, 1954 at Zanesville a son of the late James W.and Betty L. Watson Davis. He was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglass in Newark, was a U.S. Army Veteran, graduated from Zanesville High School Class Of 1972. He loved being with his friends.

He leaves behind to mourn his loss, sisters, Linda K.( James II ) Gee of Zanesville and Sherry ( Jon ) Murphy of Zanesville, nephew, James K. III ( Kathy ) Gee of Maumee, Ohio, great nephew, James Gee IV, special cousin, Shirley Bennett of Zanesville.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Davis on July 3, 2000 and his mother, Betty L. Davis, June 16, 2001.

No calling hours will be observed. James will be buried beside his beloved parents at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. A caring cremation has been entrusted to the care and direction of The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville.

In lieu of flowers: Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice- Morrison House for the wonderful care James received.

Judith A. Campbell

Judith A. Campbell, age 64, of Zanesville Ohio, passed away at 9:50 pm Monday, January 19, 2002 at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care Morrison House. She was born April 2, 1939 in Zanesville the daughter of Vonda  Taylor Covert of Zanesville and the late Donald J. Covert. Mrs. Campbell was a former Secretary for the Metropolitan Housing Authority and a member of the St James Episcopal Church. Surviving are her mother, Vonda  Taylor Covert of Zanesville, one daughter, Denise (John) Allen of Jacksonville Fl.,one son, David (Judy) Dye of  Jeffersonville Oh., four sisters, Barbara Payton of Cinn., Gloria (Will) Harris of Seminole Fl., Donna ( Robert) Heilman of Columbus, and Christine (Steve) Cannon of Zanesville, one brother, Joe (Neecy) Covert of Ashville N. C., three grandchildren, Erica, Jacob and Ashley. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her former husband Dale K. Campbell.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the Zanesville Memorial Park with the Rev. Tom England officiating. No calling hours will be observed.

The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, entrusted with all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Respiratory Therapy.

Bernard Wheeler

Bernard E. Wheeler, 88, of Zanesville, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 at Genesis Morrison House. He was born on March 10, 1915 in Muskingum County, the son of the late John H. And Bessie Geyer Wheeler. He retired from Keith Scott Oldsmobile as service manager in 1981.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eloise M. Bendure Wheeler and by four sisters, Doris Iden of Gratiot, Julia Reed, Martha Vogel and Joan ( Jim ) Hatfield all of Zanesville.

After retirement he loved to work in his woodshop and garden. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and a 55 year member of Pleasant Grove Grange.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.

Bernice Armbrust

Bernice Faye  Jones Kovaleski Armbrust, 89 of Pittsburgh, Pa, formerly of Zanesville died at 7:36 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon, PA. She was born January 21, 1914 at Glouster, Ohio a daughter of the late Isaac Jr.& Briggie James Jones. She retired from Brockway Glass as a packer, was a very active member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deaconess. Bernice was an avid quilter, and reader enjoying mysteries, Gothics, and Suspense stories.

Surviving are one daughter, Phyllis ( Robert ) Zukowski of Pittsburgh, PA., three grandchildren, Tmitri Jonathan Zukowski, Thaddeus Joseph Zukowski and Tasha Stefan Zukowski, four great grandchildren, Melissa Evans, Jesse Evans, Julia Zukowski and Anne Zukowski, four brothers, William  Jones of Brockport, NY., Dale ( Juanita )  Jones of Zanesville, Joseph ( Lillian )  Jones of Danville, VA and Vaughn  Jones of Bell Flower, California.

She was preceded in death besides her parents, by her husband, Edward George Armbrust who died in 1988, five brothers, Gerald, Harmon, Kenneth, Francis and Glenn Jones, two sisters, Mary Stone and Audrey Jones.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 830 military Road and 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Dr. Richard Boyer officiating. A caring cremation will follow the service.The arrangements are being entrusted to the care and direction of the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville.

Mark A. Riehl

Mark A. Riehl, 38, of Zanesville died at 2:32 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born May 27, 1965 at Zanesville a son of Daniel & Gloria Trout Riehl of Zanesville. He was the Owner & Operator of Riehl Enterprises Welding. He was a Methodist by faith and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mark loved boating, fishing and hunting.

Surviving in addition to his parents, his wife, Shirley M. Riehl of the home, whom he married October 16, 1990, one daughter, Danielle Marc Riehl of Zanesville, step-children, Sheri Challingworth of Penfield, PA. And Pvt. Carl Chittester of Ft. Leonardwood, MO., three grandchildren, Amity, Jacob, and Charlene Challingworth all of Penfield, PA., grandmother, Mary H. St. John of Zanesville, two uncles, James Riehl of Surprise, AZ and Robert Riehl of Walnut, California, one aunt, Donna ( Cliff ) Pletcher of South Zanesville.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandmother, Blanche Trout and grandfathers, Morris Trout and Robert J. Riehl.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m.Tuesday with Rev. Skip Colvin of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church officiating.. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville.

Amelia A. Tanner

Amelia A. Tanner, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, on January 17th, left this world to be with her Lord and Maker. She was born to Albert and Anna Monsour on June 25th 1913 at Akron, Ohio where she resided until her marriage.

She is survived by 5 children: Jan ( Ron )Tanner- Thompson, Sharon Tanner ( Steve ) Strauss, Richard ( Donna ) Tanner, Robert Tanner, Sr., and Patrick Tanner, all of Zanesville; 9 grandchildren, Shannon Tanner, Kathy ( Dan ) Warne, Michael ( Patricia ) Thompson, Mark Thompson, Jeff ( Penny ) Tanner, Susan Jenkins, Lisa ( Rusty ) McDonald, Doug Tanner and Tina ( Anthony ) Cochran; several great grandchildren; one sister, Louise Berris of Miami, Fla; two nieces, Sister Joan Monsour of Akron and Adele Antoon of Miami, Fla.

She was preceded in death in 1984 by her beloved husband of 53 years, Attorney Michael R. Tanner, beloved grandson, Deputy Sheriff Robert M. Tanner, Jr. and 11 brothers and sisters as well as her parents.

She was a long-time (73 years ) faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and a deeply devoted Catholic. She shared her love of Jesus Christ with the members of St. Thomas Catholic Church through her contribution of a lovely painting of the Devine Mercy which hangs in the church, near the entrance.

She was an exemplary wife and mother and will be deeply mourned by her family.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with Fr. Emmanuel Bertrand celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. Rosary services will be held at 3:30 p.m. and wake services at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lena E. Grimes

Lena E. Grimes, age 86, of Hopewell Ohio, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at her residence. She was born January 10, 1918 in  Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Sylvester Leroy and Jenny Starcher Sickle. Mrs. Grimes was a devoted member of the Hopewell Free Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters and sons in-law, Myrna and Wayne Sidle of Newark, Marie and Jerry Littlejohn of Leesburg Fl., and Rita and Roy Carpenter of Hopewell, two sons and daughters in-law, Jay P. And Sharon Grimes of Columbus, Oh., and Dale and Karen Grimes of Newark, fifteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay M. (Jack) Grimes, who died August 8, 2003, by two sisters, Lovie McDaniel and Bertha Kirby, by six brothers, Brooks, Oscar, Simon, Ira, Saul and Paul Sickle.

Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave, Zanesville, and from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Bolin Funeral Home with Rev. David Talkington and the Rev. Don Grimes officiating.Burial will follow at Poplar Fork Cemetery, near Gratiot Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, or to the Hopewell Free Methodist Church.

June Land

Summit, New Jersey, January 14, 2004---Mrs. June Land passed away in the early hours of January 14, 2003 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey following a brief illness. Mrs. Land was born June Oster October 4, 1923 in Brooklyn New York. She was a 1943 graduate of St. John's University in New York and received a law degree (JD) from St. John's in 1947. Mrs. Land was admitted to and a member of the New York Bar.

Mrs. Land and her husband Allan (former President of WHIZ AM-FM-TV) moved to Zanesville from New York City following their August 17, 1947 wedding. A loving wife and full-time partner in their 56-year marriage, Mrs. Land was an extremely active member of the community. She served as a long time member and former president of the Senior League of Bethesda Hospital and chaired the Bethesda Harness Race Matinee. Mrs. Land was a founding member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army, a member of the Beth Abraham Sisterhood, St. John's Alumni Association, active in Boy and Girl Scouts of America and a founder of the Zanesville Chapter of Child Abuse Prevention (CAP).

She is predeceased by her father Meyer Oster, her mother Gertrude Aarons Oster both of New York City and her brother Irwin Oster of Miami Beach.

Mrs. Land is survived by her loving husband, Allan, a sister, Leatrice Perry of St. Louis, three children and six grandchildren. Her son Eric is President/General Manager of WFLA-TV, Tampa, Florida. Eric is married to Cynthia B Land a Special Education Teacher in Tampa. Son Michael is Vice-president/General Manager Pharmacia Diagnostics (a division of Pfizer), Kalamazoo, Michigan and is married to Nancy Beckett Land; Mrs. Land's adoring daughter, Myra Gibson, of Watchung, New Jersey. Myra's husband Jack is Life Practice Leader (Actuary), N.A. of Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in New York City.

Mrs. Land's grandchildren include: Garrett Land, 27 is a third year law school student at Michigan State University, Jordan Land, 25, a Master's Degree candidate at Jacksonville State University, Drew, 17 and Zachary, 13, both students and accomplished musicians in Kalamazoo public schools. Ted Gibson, 16 and Allison Gibson, 12, both students at Newark Academy. Ted and Allison are involved in sports, music and theater. Mrs. Land had a special affinity for her six grandchildren Their joy and Mrs. Land's were special bedtime stories Mrs. Land would conjure when the children were much younger. Original creations crafted spontaneously, there were no repeat renditions only "first run" originals recalled by the children today and hopefully the rest of their lives.

Visitation will be at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue Thursday 7-9p.m. and Friday 1-2p.m. Services will be held at Bolin Funeral Home Friday at 2pm with a graveside service immediately following at Beth Abraham Cemetery, Rabbi Jeffrey Elson officiating.
