June Isabelle Richards
June Isabelle Richards, age 63, of 6228 Marion-Waldo Road, Waldo, passed away Thursday evening at her home. Born in Harrisonville (Meigs County) Ohio on August 11, 1938 to Edgar and Ruth (Ellis) Kindell, she married Robert E. Richards on March 20, 1960 and he survives at home. June had driven school busses for River Valley Schools for 25 years and was a member of Marion Moose Lodge. A cancer survivor for 14 years, she hopes others will be inspired by faith and always have hope. She is also survived by her mother and step-father; Ruth and Kenneth Lowry of Marion, her 3 sons; Robert E. Richards Jr., Christopher J. Richards and Jerry L. Richards, all of Marion, her 3 daughters; Mrs. Michael (Mary) Litell, Mrs. Kevin (Sharon) Noggle and Kathy Richards, all of Marion, her 3 sisters; Gladys Notvest of Colorado Springs, Marty Drake of Cardington and Marsha Hundley of Marion, her brother; John Engles of Pomeroy, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Bobby Joe Keys and Walter Kindell and her sister; Jarret Lassitter. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice at Grady or the Central Baptist Church.
Irene Ruth Moore
Irene Ruth Moore, age 79, of 464 Jamesway Drive, Marion, passed away early Thursday morning at Marion General Hospital. Born in Marion County on October 22, 1922 to John and Ada (Weaver) Morgan, she married Stanley Moore on January 1, 1946 and he survives at home. A graduate of both Harding High School and the Ohio State University, she taught school for many years in the Marion City School system. She was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem #15, Lydia Chapter #83 O.E.S., Eldorado Club, University Club, Hicks & Chicks square dance club and United Methodist Women. Surviving in addition to her husband Stanley are her 2 daughters; Cindi Reeves of Johnstown and Candi Moore of Granville, her 2 sons-in-law; Allen Reeves of Johnstown and Steve Mershon of Granville and her two grandchildren; Morgan Reeves and Michael Reeves. She was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the Epworth United Methodist Church with Chaplain Daniel L. Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 P.M. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home where both White Shrine of Jerusalem and Eastern Star services will be held beginning at 4:45 P.M. Terry Jay Nelson
Terry Jay Nelson, age 63, of 340 Girard Avenue, Marion, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning at Marion General Hospital. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio on August 28, 1939 to Samuel and Wilma (Harris) Nelson, he married the former Joanne Williams on April 6, 1990 and she survives at home. Terry was employed by the City of Marion in the Street Department and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of the Marion Eagles Aerie . Also surviving are 2 sons; Jeremy Nelson of Georgia and Tad (Sandra) Nelson of Marion, a stepson; Kevin Crabtree of Marion, 2 step-daughters; Connie Gray of Marengo and Loretta Romain of Indiana, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday evening from 4-6 P.M. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Edward Lee Miller
Edward Lee Miller, age 49, of 488 Windsor Street, Marion, passed away early Friday morning at Marion General Hospital. He was born in Marion on August 12, 1953 to Elmer and Willia Mae (Lyons) Messenger. Edward was preceded in death by his mother and his two sisters; Joyce Rose and Elva Mae Skerrett. Surviving are his father; Elmer of Marion and his two brothers; John William Messenger and Joseph Messenger, both of Marion. Graveside services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. at the Grand Prairie Cemetery with Rev. Fred L. Buckner officiating. Calling hours will not be observed. Rachael Fern Beery
Rachael Fern Beery of LaRue, Ohio passed away Tuesday morning, May 20, 2003 at the age of 92 at Community Healthcare Center in Marion, Ohio. Rachael was born October 28, 1911 in a log cabin close to Essex, Ohio in Marion County to Virden and Lucy (Cleveland) Dutton. She married Oscar O. Beery June 27, 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1985. Rachael was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family and friends and was an avid witness of Rev. David Aiken's ministries on TV channel 39. She is survived by two sons; Arthur O. Beery of Marion and Ronald E. (Sherry) Beery of LaRue, one brother; Donald (Maxine) Dutton of LaRue, 3 grandchildren; Mrs. Matt (Linda) Hindman, Mrs. Todd (Laura) Johnson and Brett Beery, all of Marion and 6 great-grandchildren; Jessica & Nicholas Hindman, Dolores & Adrian Johnson and Kevin & Ethan Beery. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 8 at 4:00 P.M. in the LaRue Cemetery with Rev. David Aiken of TV channel 39 officiating. Friends and family are encouraged to attend. Vicky C. Pierce
Vicky C. Pierce, age 52, of 157 Brenner Court, Marion, passed away early Saturday afternoon at Marion General Hospital. Born in Marion on November 27, 1950 to Sheridan 'Doc' Pierce and Margaret L. (Snow) Pierce, she was a 1969 graduate of Harding High School. An avid Buckeye and Bengals fan, she belonged to the Moose Lodge and the Marion Kidney Dialysis Support Group. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother; Bill 'Budah' Pierce and a step-sister; Susie Caceres. Surviving are her mother; Margaret Pierce-Martin of Marion, her step-mother; Pearl Pierce of Marion, her son; Terry Pierce of South Carolina, her daughter with whom she made her home; Heather Houseworth, her brother; Tom (Bonnie) Pierce of Marion, 2 grandchildren; Brittany and Bryant Pierce and special friends; Jan Kirts, Kathy McCullough and Carol Thacker. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Russell Howard, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to her family in care of the funeral home.
Ruby Pickens
CONDIT -- Ruby Pickens, age 88, formerly of Marion, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 22, 2003, at Morning View Care Center in Condit.
Born in Leon, W.Va., on March 17, 1915, to Charles and Lena (Stewart) King, she married Bacel "Mark" Pickens on May 5, 1934, and he preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Ernest, her sister, Ruth Stone, and her brother, Charles King.
A homemaker, she was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and its Sarah Circle. Ruby was also a member of the Marion Senior Citizens, the Steelworker Retiree Club and was a charter member of the Marion Cro-Em-Tat Club for 40 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Eleanor) Simpson of Centerburg; her daughter-in-law, Jan Pickens of Marion; her half-sisters, Mrs. Jack (Kathleen) Hill of Galloway and Mrs. Arthur (Juanita) Burdette of Leon, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. William E. Maki officiating. Burial will follow in the historic Marion Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Elizabeth Kinsley
SANDUSKY -- Dorothy Elizabeth Kinsley, 88, of 106 W. Bay View Drive, Sandusky, formerly of Nevada, Ohio, passed away July 16, 2003, in her home.
She was the widow of G. Nevin Kinsley
She was born Aug. 30, 1914, to Alphaeus and Cora (Kreisel) McIntire. Her brother, Donald, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Mrs. David) Kinsley Naus of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Morral, Ohio, Sharon Kinsley (Mrs. Thomas) Roszman of Lexington, Ky., and Connie Kinsley Miller of Port Clinton; grandchildren are Michelle St. John of Lexington, Jeff Miller of Burnsville, Minn., Chris Roszman of Bowling Green, Ky., Kristi (Mrs. David) Morris of Galloway, Beth Roszman of Lexington, Ky., Ann (Mrs. Damon) Callis of Lexington, Jennifer Miller of Crestline, and Amy Miller of Port Clinton; great-grandchildren, Zachary St. John, Matthew Callis, Jamie Miller, Paige Morris, Samuel Miller, Trent Callis, Joshua Miller, Christopher Miller, Joseph Miller, Harris Roszman and Bailey Roszman. Her brother, David Harruff of Marengo, also survives her.
While residing in Nevada, she started the Parent Teacher Association and served as its first president. She was active in the Pythian Sisters and in the Eastern Stars, where she served as Worthy Matron.
She was an alumnus of Bowling Green State University and taught in the Nevada, Nevada/Wynford and Margaretta schools. After her retirement, she enjoyed family, friends, reading and gardening.
She and her family were active in the Nevada Methodist Church where they sang in the choir for many years. Although she had moved to Bay View, she retained her membership in that church and wished that any remembrance be made to their Parsonage Building Fund or to a favorite charity.
On Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the family invites friends to a gathering in the Nevada Methodist Church for sharing memories of her life and celebrating the transition to her new life.
Larry D. Aldrich
MARION -- Larrry D. Aldrich, age 60, of 801 Windsor St., Marion, passed away Friday, June 27, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.
Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Salvation Army, 317 W. Church St. with Major Felipe Tamayo officiating.
Arrangements are by Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors.
Mary Ann Huntsman
MARION -- Mary Ann Huntsman, age 87, of Marion, passed away early Thursday morning, July 17, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home.
Oren 'Bill' Hatch
MARION -- Oren "Bill" Hatch, 72, 3371 Marion-Bucyrus Road, passed away at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home.
Born Jan. 5, 1931, in Marion, he was the son of the late Edwin and Juanita (Hanning) Hatch.
A U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was retired from Erie Lackwana-Conrail railroads as an engineer. He was a member of Lee Street Presbyterian Church, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, 32nd degree Master Mason of Oliver Lodge 447, member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, E.A.A. and Aladdin Temple Shriners.
He is survived by two sons, Gerald (Joyce) Hatch, Caledonia, Larry (Molly) Hatch, Marion; a daughter, Juanita Rice, Marion; a brother, Allen Hatch, Marysville; three grandchildren, Jandy Bracy, Amanda (Ben) Fair and Amber Neill; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Hatch.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Burial is in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
