D. Busken, bakery founder
The bakery Daisie Busken founded 69 years ago with her husband Joseph is now the stuff of Cincinnati legend.
But when the couple started the business back in 1928, success was far from guaranteed.
Mrs. Busken was a big reason the bakery/restaurant chain has grown to 13 outlets in Greater Cincinnati today.
"She was an exceptional person," said daughter Linda Busken Jergens of Hyde Park, "because she knew how to live life fully and always with a spirit of gratitude for all that she had."
Mrs. Busken died Tuesday at the age of 91.
She used her station in life to help others, especially refugees and foreign students.
Many of those she helped came back to visit her in the last weeks of her life, Mrs. Jergens said.
"They talked about the wisdom she imparted to them," she said. "She was a wise woman."
Mrs. Busken was born July 30, 1906, in Oklahoma City.
She and her husband moved to Cincinnati in 1928. They lived in Indian Hill and reared four children: two sons, D. Page Busken and Joe Busken Jr., both of Indian Hill; and two daughters, Mrs. Jergens, and Jerry Neff of Glendale.
Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and seven step-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1990.
Mrs. Busken was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where she was active with the church bazaar and as a vacation Bible school teacher.
She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a Brownie scout leader.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 100 Miami Ave., Terrace Park. Entombment will be at Spring Grove Memorial Mausoleum.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thomas-Justin Memorial Funeral Home, 7500 Montgomery Road, Silverton.

Shirley Wrampelmeier, of Wyoming
Shirley Wrampelmeier, widow of former Wyoming Mayor Fred J. Wrampelmeier, died Wednesday. She was 86.
"She was a real lady; very gracious, never complained, always positive," said her son, Kent Wrampelmeier.
Ms. Wrampelmeier was a 30-year member of of the Wyoming Players, which established an annual award in her honor.
As a member of Wyoming Presbyterian Church, Ms. Wrampelmeier held various church offices and sang in the church choir.
She was an officer in the Wyoming Women's Club and a member of the Cincinnati Women's Club.
A resident of Maple Knoll Village in Springdale since 1981, Ms. Wrampelmeier continued to stay active in her later years. Recently she served as grand marshal for the annual "Walk of Ages" parade at the village.
"Everyone there loved her," her son said. "Everyone keeps telling us that she was just a joy to be around."
Her husband, Fred J. Wrampelmeier, died in 1979.
Other survivors include her children, Brooks Wrampelmeier of Washington D.C., and Holy Kent White of Novato, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis Brooks Metcalfe of Loveland; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Monday at Maple Knoll Village, 11100 Springfield Pike, Springdale. Memorials can be made in Shirley Wrampelmeier's name to the Fine Arts Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. Vorheis Funeral Home in Butler County is handling arrangements.

Dorothy Mayersky, citizen of year
Dorothy Marie Harrington Mayersky, 63, of Cincinnati, died Thursday.
Ms. Mayersky was named Citizen of the Year by the Montgomery Kiwanis. She was a president of the Montgomery Historical Society; Montgomery Landmark Commission Chairman; Montgomery Commission member and a Mary Magdalen House worker.

Jack Wissel, popular firefighter
Retired Cincinnati firefighter Jack Wissel had more best friends than even his family knew.
"When we were at the hospital with him last week, people we didn't even know came in saying he was their best friend," said his son, Kevin.
"We knew he was popular, but we had no idea he was that popular. He was such an awesome guy that he made everybody feel like they were his best friend."
Mr. Wissel, 73, of Covedale, died Friday after suffering a stroke.
Shortly after graduating from Elder High School in 1942, Mr. Wissel found himself in World War II with the U.S. Army.
"He was an anti-tank gunner and fought in the Battle of the Bulge," said Kevin Wissel. "He always had some marvelous stories to tell about the war that fascinated people."
Mr. Wissel spent 30 years as a Cincinnati
firefighter and was a lieutenant when he retired.
"He had no fears, no fears at all, as a firefighter," said Kevin Wissel. "He would do what he had to do to save people."
Mr. Wissel, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks, enjoyed several hobbies, including golf, darts, pool and euchre.
"He always had something to do, and he always had tons and tons of friends," said Kevin Wissel. "There was always a smile on his face."
Mr. Wissel, who was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, also leaves daughters Sharon Wissel of Covedale, Gale Paduano of Westwood and Denise Heis of Delhi Township.
