Fred Miller, was manager at Milacron
Fred W. Miller, 92, of Mt. Lookout, died Saturday. He was a retired night-shift superintendent and assistant works manager at Cincinnati Milacron.
Mr. Miller was active in the company's cooperative education program and was a member of UCATS, the University of Cincinnati's athletic scholarship boosters.
He belonged to Oakley Masonic Temple 668 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and the Syrian Shrine.
Mr. Miller leaves his wife, Aileen Jones Miller; daughters, Betty Feldmann and Ruth Feiertag; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Harris Howard, author, wife of longtime Scripps executive
Prolific writer Eleanor Harris Howard, wife of longtime Scripps Howard executive Jack R. Howard, died Thursday at her New York City apartment. She was 84.
Mrs. Howard wrote two books, two film screenplays and co-authored the Broadway play "Mating Dance." She also contributed more than 100 celebrity profiles to magazines. Her subjects included four U.S. presidents as well as a "who's who" list of film stars.
Her resume boasted, "She knows nearly everyone, loves nearly everyone and has traveled nearly everywhere."
A third generation Californian, she was graduated from Stanford University in 1935. She and Mr. Howard, son of Roy W. Howard - former president of E.W. Scripps Co. - were married in 1964.
She also leaves two stepchildren, Michael Balfe Howard, of Denver; and Pamela Howard, of Oyster Bay, N.Y.; seven step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jean Bankier of New York City; and brothers Walton Harris of Santa Monica, Calif., and Whitley Harris of Ojai, Calif.

Gabe Mulligan, veteran policeman
Gabe Mulligan was a tough but likeable and articulate Cincinnati police vice officer who enjoyed teaching others.
Mr. Mulligan, 70, of Mt. Washington, died Thursday.
He was a Cincinnati police officer for 24 years, spending 12 of them in the Vice Control Bureau. He received numerous letters of commendation in his career for outstanding work. He was also a guest speaker on drug abuse and narcotics.
After Mr. Mulligan retired from the police division in 1979, he served as a bailiff for the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts for 10 years.
He taught English in a mentoring program and taught adults to read through the LEARN program. He also taught criminal justice at Scarlet Oaks vocational school.
He was a past president of St. Vincent DePaul Society Mother of God Conference and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 69.
Mr. Mulligan served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, with the U.S. Army during the
Korean War and with the U.S. Air Force Reserves before retiring.
He leaves a son, Brian of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Gail Anderson of Aurora, Ill., and Cheri Mulligan of Bellingham, Wash.; a brother, Mike Mulligan of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and a friend, Joy Rolfsen.
Services: Mass at noon today at Mother of God Church, Covington. T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington, is handling arrangements. Fraternal Order of Police services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials: One Way Farm, 6131 River Road, Fairfield, Ohio 45014.

Steely Veach, singer, teacher
Steely E. Veach, whose tenor voice once brought him world acclaim, died Sunday at his home outside Harlan, Ky. He was 74.
Mr. Veach, a native of Gray in Knox County, Ky., performed in France, Italy, Switzerland and other countries as a young man and performed on radio and TV shows in Cincinnati.
He studied at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York and the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. He later returned to Eastern Kentucky to teach music and direct the choir at Cawood High School in Harlan County.
Veach also was a music teacher at Mt. Healthy High School in the 1950s.
"He was just a very outgoing person that enjoyed music," said longtime friend, Donald Barni. "His life was built around music. He loved to travel, too."
He is survived by aunts and cousins in Bardstown, Ky. Services were held in Harlan County. Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan County handled arrangements.
