Mable M. Rife, 99, of Upper Sandusky, OH died at 2:20 am Monday August 29, 2005 at the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky, OH.

Mrs. Rife was born March 21, 1906 in Sycamore, OH to Pearl C. & Iva (Swerlein) Mann and both are deceased. She married Harry Rife on November 15, 1924 in Monroe, MI and he died April 14, 1960. She is survived by 6 grandchildren: Lynelle(& her husband Shane) Hitchcock of Tiffin, OH; Scott Rife of Lexington, South Carolina; Todd Rife of Tiffin; Jeffrey Rife of Tiffin; Vicky(& her husband Wayne) Babcock of Sycamore and Nancy Rohrbacher of Fremont; 9 Great Grandchildren.
Mrs. Rife was preceded in death by 1 son: Dale L. Rife; 2 Brothers: John Mann and Orville Mann.

Mrs. Rife was a homemaker and worked as a nurse’s aid at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for over 12 years. She also did wallpapering in the community for many years. For hobbies Mable enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and doing crafts.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday Sept. 1, 2005 at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, OH. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Wayne Geissinger. Memorials may be made to the Wyandot Health Foundation c/o Lucas Funeral Home PO Box 207 Upper Sandusky, OH 43351

Earl R. Thomas, 77, of Upper Sandusky died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Mr. Thomas was born on March 28, 1928 to Earl L. & Edna Mae (Balduf) Thomas and both are deceased. He married Mary Alice Bastel on November 18, 1950 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky and she survives. Also surviving is 1 son: Robert M. “Rob” (& his wife Bonnie) Thomas of New Bern, North Carolina;1 daughter: Corinne M. (& her husband Ron) Casali of Sandusky, Ohio; 5 grandchildren: Ben Thomas, Dan Thomas, Brad Casali, Mary Thomas and Elizabeth Casali; 1 sister: Pauline Thiel of Upper Sandusky. Mr. Thomas was peceded in death by 2 brothers: Donald E. and Lawrence E. Thomas.

Mr. Thomas graduated in 1946 from the Upper Sandusky High School and attended the Bowling Green State University for a short time. He was co-owner, along with Edward L Franz, of Thomas & Franz Furniture Store in Upper Sandusky having started the business in 1956 and retiring in 1992. During his retirement he worked for Lincoln Hills Golf Course in Upper Sandusky.

Mr. Thomas was a member of the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky where he served as a Lecter and Eucharist Minister. He also had coached CYO baseball in earlier years. Mr. Thomas was a life member and past exalted ruler of BPOE #83 in Upper Sandusky and a member of Knights of Columbus in Upper Sandusky. For hobbies Mr. Thomas enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, model airplanes and in his earlier years had his pilots license and enjoyed flying his plane.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 9 at the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. Burial will proceed to the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Upper Sandusky. Officiating will be the Rev. Kent Kauffman. Friends may call on the family Wednesday, February 8 from 5-8 pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with a Biblical Wake Service at 8 pm following visiting hours at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Peter's Catholic School and/or the Donor's Choice c/o Lucas-Batton Funeral Home PO Box 207 Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Ernestine E. Borton, 91, formerly of CR 44, Upper Sandusky, has been a resident of The Fairhaven Community since 1997, died at 11:50PM Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, in the Fairhaven Community.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1912 in Wauseon, to the late Charles J. and Sara(Meister) Barckert. She married John L. Borton on July 20, 1041 and he died Sept. 24, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jill) Zimmerly of Pandora and Mrs. David (Beth) Lininger of Sycamore.
7 Grandchildren, 16 Great Granchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Vinton and a sister Irene L. Barckert.

Ernestine was a homemaker and a school teacher having taught business education in Grand Rapids from 1934-1937, Napoleon from 1937 - 1941, then in Upper Sandusky from 1960-1971. She graduated from Wauseon High School in 1930 and from BGSU in 1934 with a bach. degree in education.

She was a 50yr. member of the John Stewart U.M.C. in Upper Sandusky where she was active with the Welcome Couple Class, History Committee and was a volunteer at the Old Mission Church. She was a 4-H advisor for 8 yrs., where she received, along with her husband, the Friends of the Extension Award and the AARP Service to the Community Award.
Wyandot Co. Farm Bureau member and a 50 yr. member of the county, state and national retired teachers association.

She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cross-stiching, crocheting, and quilting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Dorothy I. Newland, 79, formerly of Nevada, Ohio, and has been a resident of Altercare Nursing Home in Bucyrus.
Died Sunday November 30 @ 11:33PM in MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio.

Born April 1, 1924 in Athens, PA to Earl & Hazel (Voburgh) Lantz who are both deceased. She married Robert Eugene Newland and he is deceased.

Surviving are 1 son: Robin and his wife Gale, Newland of Upper Sandusky; 1 Daughter: Carmella Raynae Newland of Cookeville, TN; 5 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, 2 Brothers: Charles "Chuck" Lantz of Nevada and Ed Lantz of Marion. 4 Sisters: JoAnn Young of Nevada, Thelma Irwin of Bucyrus, Coila Newland of Sterling, OH; Betty  Johnson of Sayre, PA and Berta Stowits of Waverly, NY. Preceded in death by 1 brother: Donald Lantz.

Richard F. Baker, 76, of Upper Sandusky died at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 1st at Fairhaven Community. He was born to the late William F. and Clara E. (Ulrich) Baker of Wyandot County on June 19, 1928.
Richard married Norma Rowland on July 17, 1948, in Newport, Kentucky. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons: Kevin and Kraig Baker, both of Upper Sandusky; two daughters: Mrs. Bret (Marsha) McDonald of Marion and Lorrie Baker of Columbus; three grandchildren: Fernanda and Karma McDonald, and Ian Baker; and two great grandchildren: Mya and Boston Hicks.
Richard was preceded in death by one brother: Glenn Baker; and four sisters: Laura Baker, Luella Swartz, Nellie Miller, and Arlene Scribner.
Richard graduated from Salem High School in 1947. He worked for 37 and-a-half years for Claycraft Co. in Upper Sandusky and also owned and operated Baker's Party Store in Upper Sandusky for many years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a lifetime member and former commander of American Legion Post #225, a member of VFW Post #2842, AMVETS Post #777, and the Upper Sandusky Lion's Club. He was also a former member of Moose Lodge 1093, Eagles Club, and the Sportsman's Club in Upper Sandusky. For hobbies Richard enjoyed playing softball and over the years he played for the Baker's Party Store team, Upper Merchant's team, and the Baldrich Tire and Battery team. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, tending to his fruit trees, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Helen L. Fox of Upper Sandusky, died Wednesday, August 4th at 7:15 pm at Fairhaven Retirement Community. She was 86.

She was born on March 28th, 1918 to the late Elzer and Dorothy (Seebach) Johns in Upper Sandusky. On May 6th, 1939 Helen married Vincent L. Fox in Kentucky. Vincent died June 21st, 1980.

Helen is survived by two sons: Thomas and Jerre Fox of Upper Sandusky; one daughter: Mrs. Richard (Sue) Zimmerman of Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren: Gregory Fox of Holland, Ohio, Rachel Zimmerman of Upper Sandusky, and Kristy Fox of Holland; and one brother: Harold Johns of Upper Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, James, and Tommy.

Helen graduated from Upper Sandusky High School, and she and her husband owned and operated Fox's Garage in Upper Sandusky from 1947 until 1990. She also worked for Flox's Department Store in Upper Sandusky.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a thirty-year plus member of the Upper Sandusky Fire Dept. Ladies Auxillary and past president of the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Fireman's Auxillary. Helen was also a former member of the Amvets Auxillary and the Emblem Club BPOE #83, Women of the Moose in Upper Sandusky. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and ceramics.

Memorials may be made out to the Upper Sandusky Fire Department, Hospice of Wyandot County, or to an organization of the donor's choice and may be sent to Lucas Funeral Home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351
