Barbara Sue Kopowski, wife of N. Ky. judge
Barbara Sue Kopowski, a clerk at Pro Active Health Services, Cincinnati, and wife of Campbell County Circuit Court Judge Leonard Kopowski, died Saturday just hours after suffering a stroke.
Mrs. Kopowski, 48, of Melbourne, Ky., died at St. Luke Hospital East.
Kopowski, a veteran judge, said he had been out briefly Saturday, and when he returned home he found his wife lying on the couch. She told him she was seriously ill.
"The last two weeks she had been having bad headaches, but the doctor diagnosed it as a muscle condition. She had been feeling better the last few days," he said.
Mrs. Kopowski and Judge Kopowski would have celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary later this month. They each had two children from previous marriages, but treated them as all one family, Kopowski said.
Mrs. Kopowski was active in the Newport Elks Lodge Auxiliary and the Campbell County Woman's Democratic Club.
Kopowski and his wife traveled extensively together, including fishing trips on Lake Erie and in Canada, he said.
"We were fishing buddies. Some people were surprised that we would fly into remote places in Canada and spend several days together fishing," he said.
