Bob Hart Jr., show promoter

Bob Hart Jr., whose boat and travel shows, car displays, and home shows have drawn thousands downtown to escape the winter doldrums, died of a heart attack Friday in Hamilton.

Mr. Hart, 72, lived in a log cabin on a farm in Millville, Ohio.

Drawing on his own his love for the outdoors and writing, Mr. Hart founded Hart Productions and worked to put together his first sports show in 1960.

"There were other shows like that around the country but not in Cincinnati," said son Robert "Chip" Hart III. "He had his first show at the Cincinnati Gardens in 1960 and (later) we moved to the convention center downtown."

The Travel, Sports and Boat show, now held at the Dr. Albert B. Sabin Cincinnati Convention Center has been a winter staple here for more than 30 years.

In later years, Mr. Hart added the Home and Garden Show, Auto Expo and the Kitchen and Bath Show to annual events he produced, events that won awards from the International Association of Travel Exhibitors.

"He enjoyed producing shows for the sportsmen of Cincinnati," his son said. "He was a member of the Outdoor Writers of America. Fishing and hunting were his life."

Mr. Hart, in fact, was a 40-year member of that organization and its past president. He also wrote outdoors columns for publications and co-authored a "Where to Fish Guide."

Ms. Hart was appointed the first chairman of the Ohio Travel Council, the first chairman of the Cincinnati Tourist Council and a board member of the National Association of Travel Organizations.

He also was a member of the N.C. Harmony Masonic Lodge #2 and the Ohio Society, a local group of farm owners.

The Bond Hill native returned from his hitch in the Marines during World War II to begin his writing career while also working for General Electric in Evendale and later for Roy Madison Public Relations.

After leaving Bond Hill for Finneytown, Mr. Hart moved 15 years ago to a log home in Butler County to "get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life," his son said.

Other survivors include his wife Harriett Sprague Hart, another sons, Douglas Hart, and a daughter, Tamara Fales. His first wife, Eunice Pollak Hart, died in 1980.

Arrangements are pending at Elden A. Good Funeral Home, Hyde Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Lucile E. Hansley, OSU sports star

It was rare for a woman attending college in the 1920s to compete in intercollegiate sports - much less 10 different sports - but Ohio State University student Lucile E. Hansley was not a coed typical of those times.

Mrs. Hansley made Ohio State history by being the first woman on the university's pistol team. She also earned a varsity letter in each of nine other sports and continued her active lifestyle long into her senior years, said family members.

Mrs. Hansley, 92, died Friday at Bethesda North Hospital.

"She was an inspiration to be around," said daughter Paula of her mother's positive outlook on life and the can-do attitude forged during her active youth.

A longtime fan of sports, especially the outdoors, and travel, Mrs. Hansley had visited every state in the United States except Alaska. She played tennis late into her life and continued hiking - averaging 3.5 miles a day - until she was 87 years old, said Ms. Hansley.

"She was incredible. Her athletic accomplishments were amazing," she said.

She added that her mother, a resident of Indian Hill since 1951, was also active in the local garden club and an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous social causes and events.

Mrs. Hansley was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L. Hansley.

Other survivors include daughters Joan Redmann and Carole Davis and a brother, Harold Peters.

Memorial service for Mrs. Hansley will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chaperal Armstrong Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cincinnati Nature Center or the Armstrong Chapel Church.
