Eunice Crank, ran Ladies Auxiliary

Eunice "Sue" Crank, a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the East End Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cincinnati, died Sunday.

Mrs. Crank was 73 and had been living at the Lincoln Center West Nursing Home in Connersville, Ind. Her husband, Charles, died in 1979.

Survivors include daughters, Debbie Poe of Connersville, Ind., and Mary Harmeling of Cincinnati; sons, Tom Schaser of Dayton, Ohio, and Jim Schaser of Batavia, Ohio; sisters, Mary Ellen Sester and Margaret Ann Houser, both of Cincinnati, and Eileen Crank of Laurel, Ind.; brothers, Virgil "Sonny" Rush, of Alexandria, Ky., and Pete Rush of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hope Well Cemetery, Andersonville, Ind.

Dr. John R. Donohoo served community

Dr. John R. Donohoo of Georgetown, a family physician whose patients became friends, died Sunday at his home. He was 77.

"Dr. John," as he was affectionately known in the community, was on the first board of trustees of Brown County General Hospital and was a former Brown County Coroner. He was a former member of the Georgetown Exempted Village School Board of Education for more than 18 years, serving as president for half of his term. He was a past president of the Brown County Board of Health, was on the Georgetown Village Council and was one of the founders of the Georgetown Playground committee that was responsible for lighting the original baseball diamond in Georgetown.

Beyond his love of community, Dr. Donohoo also displayed a love of horses. He owned and operated Donohoo Stables, which was noted for its fine American Saddlebred horses, and was a member of the Central Kentucky Horse Show Association.

He combined his civic and equestrian interests by co-founding the Brown County Charity Horse Show and serving as its chairman for 25 years.

Dr. Donohoo also served as chairman of the Brown County Courthouse Reconstruction Association, and was active in the Republican party.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Scott Donohoo; a daughter, Deborah Durbin; sons, J. Michael Donohoo and Dr. Jeffrey S. Donohoo; and four grandchildren, all of Georgetown.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cahall Funeral Home, Georgetown. Memorials: Georgetown Presbyterian Church, or the John R. Donohoo Scholarship Fund, in care of the Georgetown Exempted Village School District.

Rev. William Franer, chaplain, educator

Rev. William Joseph Franer, 83, retired director of St. Aloysius Orphanage and a former chaplain for the Cincinnati Fire Division, died Saturday.

Father Franer studied at St. Gregory and Mount St. Mary seminaries in Cincinnati before being ordained in 1940. He went on to serve as associate pastor of several local parishes.

In 1944, he was assigned to St. Joseph Orphanage. Later the same year, he was appointed assistant superintendent of schools in the archdiocese. In 1969, he became acting superintendent and later vicar for education.

Father Franer also served as director chaplain of the University of Cincinnati's Newman Club and was a former chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital. He retired in 1995.

"He was our good shepherd, more like a father than a brother," said his sister, Catherine Franer.

Mass: 3 p.m. Friday at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday at the cathedral. Arrangements: Gilligan Funeral Home, Kenwood.
