Georgia Krider, dedicated volunteer
Georgia Cole Krider, widely known in Lawrenceburg for her years of determined efforts to improve her Indiana community, died Tuesday. She was 79.
The caseworker for the Dearborn County Welfare Department helped establish the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council and served as its vice president. She also was involved in the establishment of the YES Home, Dearborn County Hospital Auxiliary and the Dearborn Highlands Arts Council. She served on the boards of numerous organizations.
The Lawrenceburg native was the widow of photographer William M. Krider and a graduate of St. Mary-of-the Woods College and Indiana State University. For her organization of the Reach to Recovery program at Dearborn County Hospital, Mrs. Krider was recognized in 1978 by the Cincinnati Enquirer as a Woman of the Year.
Mrs. Krider leaves daughters Rosemary Schmid of Charlotte, N.C., Katherine Satchwill of Carmel, Ind., Elizabeth Traub of Indianapolis, Margaret Powell of Kingsland, Ga., Jane Deyoung of Greendale, Ind., and Marijo Krider of Savannah, Ga.; sons William G. Krider and Krish Krider, both of Lawrenceburg, Richard Krider of Marietta, Ga., and Robert Krider of Cincinnati; a sister, Mary O'Keefe of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 27 grandchildren.

Ervil Daniel, manager and dog breeder
Ervil C. Daniel, 72, retired traffic manager for the Revlon-Realistic Co. and a dog breeder, died Monday.
Mr. Daniel, of Glen Este, was in charge of shipping for his company and did not miss a day of work in 44 years, said his wife, Ann Daniel.
"Even when he had a broken shoulder . . . when the doctor told him he could go back to work, he said, 'I never stopped going,' " his wife said. "He had a great sense of humor and everyone loved him."
The Daniels own Villa-Dan Kennel, where they have bred and raised champion Irish Setters. They were instrumental in research of progressive retinal atrophy, an eye disease in Irish Setters.
He leaves four children, Kerry Daniel of Wilder, Ky.; Cheryl Conaway of Cincinnati; Dale Daniel of Batavia; and Debra Covyeau of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a brother, Donald Daniel of New Richmond; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

J. Matt Figgins, artist and student
Liver cancer didn't keep 22-year-old J. Matt Figgins of Burlington, Ky., from doing the things he loved: going to college to be an aircraft mechanic, loading and unloading aircraft for a local airline and developing his artistic talent.
For four years, he did these things while suffering through chemotherapy treatments that often made him sick and weak.
The 1994 Conner Senior High School graduate died Wednesday at Christ Hospital.
"He's been such a courageous guy," said his mother, Brenda. "He touched so many people's lives in his young, short years."
Mr. Figgins played football for Conner High School and developed his talent for art. He was studying at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College to become an aircraft mechanic.
Other survivors include his father, Wayne, and a sister, Lisa Slaughter of Boise, Idaho.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill, Ky. Memorials are suggested to Family House, Nese-Barkan Building, 233 McKee Place, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.

Ralph Fithen, police officer and fire chief
Former village police officer and Georgetown fire chief Ralph R. Fithen, 73, died Friday.
He was a retired foreman and inventory control supervisor with Allis-Chalmers and a current deputy in the Brown County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Fithen served on the Georgetown Village Council in the 1970s and was a former justice of the peace in Pleasant Township.
The World War II Army veteran was a past president of the Brown County Peace Officer's Association and member of the Carey Bavis Post of the American Legion.
He leaves his wife, Imogene; daughters Geta Gable of Mt. Orab, Ohio, and Becky Utter of Georgetown; son Lowell Fithen of Milford, Ohio; sisters Ann Latham and Ethel Carrington, both of Georgetown, and Clara Best and Emma Jane Black, both of Winchester, Ohio; brothers Earl of Fayteville, Ohio, William of Bethel, Ohio, and Harold of Zepherhills, Fla. seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
