Joseph Shea Jr., mayor
Joseph W. Shea Jr., former mayor and law director for the city of Norwood, died Friday.
Mr. Shea, of Kenwood, was 79.
The Norwood native began practicing law there in 1943 after graduating from the Chase College of Law. He was elected to five terms as Norwood city solicitor beginning in 1948. In 1957, he was elected mayor and served for 18 years.
"He had such a great love for the city of Norwood and took such pride in the city," said his wife, Mary McPherson Shea.
"He was your typical warm Irishman with a great sense of humor and he loved to play golf."
Besides his wife, Mr. Shea leaves two daughters, Cay Hellervik of St. Paul, Minn. and Patricia Bunthoff of Loveland; two sons, Joseph W. Shea, III, of Indian Hill and Dennis Shea, Norwood; a brother, Robert Shea, Dillonvale; a sister, Margie Raleigh, of Milford, and five grandchildren.
Arrangements were through Naegele Kleb & Ihlendorf Funeral Home, Norwood. Memorials: St. Anthony Church, 6104 Desmond St., or Purcell Marian Cavalier Alumni Association.

Music teacher Erma Davis
Teacher and world traveler Erma M. Davis died Friday at Twin Towers in College Hill. Ms. Davis, 94, was a former music teacher in the Cincinnati Public Schools.
Ms. Davis retired in 1968, having spent her final six years teaching at Western Hills High School. She also served as a faculty member of the Cincinnati College of Music and Ohio Wesleyan University. After her retirement, Ms. Davis spent the next 22 years teaching Bible classes for the Friendship Class at Westwood United Methodist Church.
She traveled to more than 120 countries and in every state of the U.S., giving travelogues in schools, churches, clubs and retirement homes. She collected 220 dolls representing different people of the world. The collection is now displayed at Twin Towers.
Ms. Davis also composed music for the Young Peoples' Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and wrote articles for professional journals.

William Chase services Friday
Memorial services for William Rowell Chase, a retired executive vice-president for the Procter & Gamble Co., will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Seventh Presbyterian Church, East Walnut Hills.
The family will receive friends following services at the church Friday.
Mr. Chase died Sunday at the age of 94.

Mary Jayne Harig, worked for FBI
Mary Jayne Linneman Harig, 79, formerly of Mt. Washington and Anderson Township, died of cancer Tuesday at St. Margaret Hall.
She worked in the Cincinnati office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 10 years and later as a secretary at Western Southern Life Insurance.
Mrs. Harig was a member of the Eagle Republican Women's group, a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Anderson Township, and a member of Guardian Angels Church.
She leaves a son, John Harig; a brother, Thomas Linneman; and a granddaughter.

Carl M. Carroll, Ky. judge
Carl Musser Carroll served as a magistrate and judge executive in Harrison County, Ky., focusing his efforts on building and improving roads to the rural area.
Mr. Carroll, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Edgemont Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was 83.
His interest in politics stemmed from his family's interest in political issues and from their education, said a son, Wayne Carroll.
"He had sisters who graduated from college and a brother who graduated from business school in Cincinnati," his son said.
In the 1950s, he was appointed county magistrate to fill a vacancy. He soon was elected as county judge - a job he held for two terms.
Mr. Carroll also worked for Frazier Lebus Tobacco Co. in Cynthiana prior to his retirement around the age of 70.
Mr. Carroll was a member of Mt. Hope Methodist Church in Harrison County and a former member of White Oak Methodist Church.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana.
