STEWART "WOODY" WOOD, 97, of Versailles, Ind., died Thursday. Mr. Wood was a retired farmer and former construction worker. Services: 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay, Ind. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EST Monday, and noon EST until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Shelby Christian Church.

Edward Schellhous, loved music, students

Edward A. Schellhous blended his love for music and education into a 36-year career at the University of Cincinnati and its College-Conservatory of Music.

"He had a gift," said his wife, Nancy. "When he stood in front of a choral group, he was able to get the best to come out of everybody."

Mr. Schellhous, 78, of Mt. Washington, died Saturday of complications from pneumonia.

The Arkansas native came to Cincinnati in 1950 to join the staff of the College Conservatory of Music and held various positions, including director of admissions, head of the radio-television department, national director of the alumni association and voice faculty member.

In 1962, he became an admissions official at the University of Cincinnati and retired in 1986 as associate director of admissions.

Mr. Schellhous also served as director of music at the Hyde Park Community Methodist Church from 1952 to 1972 and was a guest conductor for many local, regional and national music festivals.

Mr. Schellhous served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and earned a master's degree in music from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1952.

He also leaves children, Mary Jane Ash, Robert Schellhous, Daniel Schellhous and Cathi Schellhous; and two grandchildren.

A reception will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday the family residence in Mt. Washington . Arrangements: T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: American Red Cross.

Todd A. Geiger, died when boat capsized

Mass will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, California, Ky., for former Campbell County resident Todd Anthony Geiger, 19, a drowning victim whose body was recovered April 11 in South Carolina.

Mr. Geiger was in a small boat in Thurman Lake in McCormick, S.C., when a high wind caused it to capsize March 21, said his father, Stanley Geiger. Another man also drowned but two younger people survived.

He also leaves his mother, Anita Arkenau Geiger, of California; sister, Jin Kristen Foegle of Southgate, Ky.; and grandmothers, Viola M. Geiger and Elsie Arkenau, both of California.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Memorials: Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, Ft. Mitchell, Ky.

Neddie Mae Elkus, of clothing store family

Neddie Mae Elkus, a prominent Cincinnatian who founded the Miss Gentry clothing company, died Monday in Florida. She was 74.

Mrs. Elkus was the wife of Gentry Men's Clothier founder Gene Elkus. The couple had been married 56 years, raising two sons. They had homes in Longboat Key, Fla., and in Cincinnati.

Mrs. Elkus was a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and attended the University of Cincinnati.

She was also a prominent hostess for many fund-raising events, particularly for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

"She fought MS for 30 years and beat it," said her husband. "She wasn't cured, but she never let it get in her way."

Mrs. Elkus died of cancer.

She also was a painter, model and interior decorator.

Mrs. Elkus is survived by two sons, Dr. Richard Elkus of Birmingham, Ala., and Michael Elkus of Cincinnati; a sister, Martha Schreiber of Dayton, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at the Isaac M. Wise Temple, Amberley Village. Visitation: 10 a.m. Thursday at the temple.

Arrangements: Weil Funeral Home. Memorials: Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky Multiple Sclerosis Society.

'Hammerin' Hank' Wilms, golf pro

Hank Wilms was a longtime Cincinnati golf pro who could play a terrific round himself and then turn around and teach others how to play.

"He was known as one of the best golfers and one of the best golf teachers in the Cincinnati area," said Mr. Wilms' son, Craig. "He touched a lot of people. Just about everywhere I go, they know my father."

Mr. Wilms, 83, of Seven Hills, died Tuesday.

Known as "Hammerin' Hank" for his booming drives, Mr. Wilms was the pro at Avon Fields from 1948 until 1965 and at Neumann Golf Center until he retired in 1985.

He was a founder of the Youth Golf Association more than 45 years ago.

Mr. Wilms turned pro in 1938, served with the U.S. Army in World War II then joined the Cincinnati Recreation Commission. He won the 1948 Cincinnati PGA Medal Play Championship and was five-time runner-up. He shot 13 holes-in-one during his career, and shot one of the lowest rounds in local history, an 11-under-par 58 at Avon Fields in the early 1950s.

Mr. Wilms is a member of the Cincinnati Municipal Golf Hall of Fame.

He also leaves his wife, Veronica; brother, Lou; sisters, Angie Draude and Mary Johnson; and two grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Norman Chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery. Arrangements: Webb-Noonan Funeral Home.
