Agnes Parker, encouraged pupils

Agnes Duncan Parker's concerns for her students went beyond the classroom. She also cared about their lives, her son said.

Mrs. Parker of Hyde Park, a retired teacher, died Tuesday.

"She encouraged her students to be the best they could be in life," said her son, Danny Duncan of Cincinnati. "She really cared about her students."

Mrs. Parker taught elementary school in the Cincinnati Public Schools for more than 25 years before retiring. Her assignments included Washburn Elementary, Garfield Elementary and serving as program director at Burton Elementary.

She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where she received her bachelor's degree and master's in education.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Evanston and was one of the founders of the Church Pantry.

She also was a member of the NAACP, Planned Parenthood, National Conference of Christians and Jews, Arts Consortium, Human Involvement Project, Advocates for Youth Education and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She also leaves a brother, Gaylord Elliott of Denver.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1809 Rutland Ave. Visitation: 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Jeanette Heinze, pioneering radio executive

Jeanette "Jan" Heinze, former vice president-general manager and part owner of radio station WCKY died Friday. She was 85.

Mrs. Heinze was a broadcasting pioneer. She joined WCKY in 1929 as a switchboard operator, where she worked her way up to program director. She later became general manager, then a major owner of WCKY and a sister station in Miami. Both stations were sold to the Washington Post Co. in 1969, when Mrs. Heinze retired.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Mrs. Heinze was among the highest-ranking female managers in any area company.

She founded the Cincinnati Rosie Reds, was a former member of the Sertoma Club and was instrumental in managing the 1966 National Governor's Conference in Cincinnati. She was also a member of the National and Ohio Association of Broadcasters and other groups.

"Her outstanding management skills and superb work ethic made her an exceptionally good executive," said friend and former president of L.B. Wilson Inc., C.H. "Top" Topmiller. "She practiced the golden rule, and that made her a good person, too."

She leaves sisters Georgia Wyatt of Crescent City, Calif., and Dorothy Vanderbleet of Aiken, S.C. Her husband, E. E. "Doc" Heinze preceded her in death.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gilligan Funeral Home, Kenwood.

Charles Edward Hauser, promoted musicians

Charles Edward Hauser, 45, of Clifton, who promoted and booked bands in Clifton clubs, died Sunday of cancer.

The self-taught guitarist was working as the head bartender at Cory's in Clifton when he began organizing and promoting bands, said his sister, Vivian Marie Macke.

He also leaves his mother, Florence Hauser; companion, Nicole Burton; son, Charles Christian Hauser; and another sister, Terry Dixon.

A celebration of Mr. Hauser's life will be 2 p.m. Sunday at 1616 State Ave., Lower Price Hill. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Grid Kids founder Harry Goedde

Youth football coaching great Harry E. Goedde died Sunday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, awaiting a heart transplant. He was 60.

The Green Township resident was facilities management director at the University of Cincinnati for the past 10 years and worked at Continental Can Co. 30 years before leaving in 1986 as quality assurance manager.

Through the Grid Kids of Greater Cincinnati, a youth football program he co-founded and directed more than 30 years, Mr. Goedde touched more than 20,000 young lives. He operated the program, sponsored by Parchman & Oyler, with the motto, "No boy will ever be cut from a team and every boy who has a desire to play, will be given a chance."

The 1955 graduate of Roger Bacon High School played football under legendary Spartan coach Bron Bacevich. He began the Grid Kids program with Bacevich and the late Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Benjamin Schwartz.

He was inducted into the Buddy LaRosa Hall of Fame and in 1984 received the Fred Hutchinson Award, named for the late Cincinnati Reds manager. He also received the Astrolabe Award from Roger Bacon.

Mr. Goedde leaves his wife, Charlene; daughters, Lori Stenger, Elizabeth Henke, Sharon Goedde, Jennifer O'Connor, Stephanie Bolinger; son, Michael Goedde; mother, Ruth Halsey; sister, Carol Jean Koth; brother, Richard A. Goedde; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass: 10:30 a.m., Friday at Our Lady of Visitation Church, Mack. Visitation: 4 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Simminger Funeral Home, Western Hills. Memorials: Ronald McDonald House or Bob Hope House.
