M. Kirk Moreland
MARION -- M. Kirk Moreland, age 86, died Thursday morning at Marion General Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger Funeral Home, Marion.
Gladis Bachelder Chalfant
FREDERICKTOWN -- Gladis Bachelder Chalfant, 84, of County Road 22, Fredericktown, Ohio, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in the Morrow County Hospital ECF.
She was a lifelong Morrow County resident, where she was born on Jan. 7, 1919, the daughter of the late George and Mary Beck Bachelder.
She worked as a cashier for Geyer's Market in Mount Gilead for 16 years until retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, the Williamsport Grange, and the Ladies Auxiliary for both the E.B. Rinehart American Legion Post No. 754 and the Nelson Campbell VFW Post 8054.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Diana) Chalfant of Mount Gilead; two daughters, Sandra Chalfant of Bellville, and Janet Cook of Mingus, Texas ; seven grandchildren, Lucinda, Rob, Mike, Malinda, Scott, Jeremy and Paula; seven great-grandchildren, Heather, Cody, Liam, Brenna, Alissa, Kylee and R.J.; a brother, Gene Bachelder of Galion; and her special friend and companion, John Phillips of Johnsville.
Her husband, Robert G. Chalfant, whom she married Oct. 4, 1941, preceded her in death on May 14, 1992. Three brothers, Howard, Doyle and Alva Bachelder, also preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mount Gilead from 5-8 p.m. tonight. The Rev. Roger A. Stinson will conduct funeral services there Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens near Lexington.

Helen E. Artz
LADY LAKE, Fla. -- Helen E. Artz, age 101, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Lady Lake Specialty Care Center in Lady Lake, Fla.
She was born in Galion, Ohio, Jan. 10, 1902, to Ceil and Tillie (Rudolph) Alheit. Helen came to Marion in 1912 and graduated Marion High School in 1920.
Helen married Leo Artz in 1924. Leo passed away in 1988. Helen also is preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn (Artz) Aures in 1991, and Dorothy (Artz) Dee in 1996. Helen is survived by Walter and Jeanette Aures of Lady Lake, Fla., and John Dee of Tuscon, Ariz.; and a first cousin, Mary Kay Mills of Marion. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Matthew (Allison) Dee, Dublin, Ohio, Molly (Terry) Taylor, Glendale, Calif., Megan (Sven) Medaas, Norway, Merrill (Steve) Schneider, Tuscon, Ariz., Mitchell (Kimberly) Aures, Orange Park, Fla., and Kevin Aures, Ridgefield, Conn. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors from 2-5 p.m. Parish prayers will be at 2 p.m. The Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at St. Mary Church with Father Rodney Damico officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pearl C. Brown-Heller
ALVADA -- Pearl C. Brown-Heller, age 65, of Alvada, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at home.
She was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Dunkirk, to the late Joseph and Catherine (Glock) Sapp.
Oct. 10, 1981, she married Gary E. Heller, who died Dec. 7, 2002.
She was a member of Church of Christ, Tiffin, and previously worked for 25 years at R.C.A. - Harris Inc. of Findlay.
Survivors include four sons, Rick (Carole) Brown, Rushsylvania, James (Mary) Brown, Alvada, Thomas (Patty) Brown, Port Richie, Fla., Jay Brown, Rushsylvania; one daughter, Crystal McCain, Dunkirk; one stepdaughter, Starling (Ronald) Cole, Marion; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Shirley) Sapp, Mount Blanchard; nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Cynthia Wright and Frances Resch, are deceased.
Friends may call Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, from 5-8 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, Marion, where services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Russell Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Evelyn L. France
MARION -- Evelyn L. France, age 76, of Marion, Ohio, died 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Lloyd Spires and Burris (Mathews).
On April 16, 1944, in Marion, she married Eugene E. Frances; he survives in Marion, Ohio.
She was a member of the First Church of God. She was a lifelong Marion, Ohio, resident and a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Larry (Becky) France of Westminster, Colo.; one daughter, Jackie (Bill) Boston of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren, Angie (Sean) Floyd of Chipley, Fla., Dee Dee (Jamie) Sniderhan of Toledo, Ohio, Brian France of Arvada, Colo., and Cory (Jennifer) France of Loveland, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Jack Sniderhan, Jenna Sniderhan, Hannah France, C. J. France, and Xavier France; one brother, Bill (Patty) Spires of Canal Winchester, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one son, Greg France; one brother; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Lanthrop officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Boyd Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of God.
Geraldine 'Myrt' Lancaster
MOUNT GILEAD -- Geraldine "Myrt" Lancaster, 97, of West Union Street, Mount Gilead, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 in Woodside Village.
She was a lifelong Mount Gilead resident, where she was born Feb. 9, 1906, the daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Shaffer Brown. She graduated from the Mount Gilead High School in 1923. She worked as a stenographer for H.P.M. Corporation and as an assembler for North Electric. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Women's Missionary Society, and the Rainbow Twig.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Lancaster of Galion, Mike (Marlene) Lancaster of Mount Gilead; two daughters, Joan (Kenneth) Baird of Mount Gilead, and Sally (Lew) Parsons of Enon; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death on Dec. 25, 1974, by her husband, Elga A. Lancaster, whom she married Aug. 30, 1926. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Jack and Jerry Lancaster; a daughter, Shirley J. Long; two brothers, Carl and Richard Brown; and a sister Alice J. Hartwell.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Braun will conduct funeral services in the First Presbyterian Church on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Rivercliff Cemetery.
