Henry Kunnen, 94, Price Hill bartender
Mixing drinks, wagering on the nags and bragging about Price Hill were what kept Henry Kunnen young.
Mr. Kunnen, 94, died in his Price Hill home Friday.
"He liked to call himself a mixologist but you'd probably call him a bartender," said cousin Mike Kunnen. "He worked at the Post Office Cafe downtown. He bartended for some of the big celebrity parties and everything. He even met Lana Turner once.
"Henry's been around forever. He went to St. Lawrence School and then to Elder before it moved, when it was still on Warsaw Avenue."
A devout Catholic, Mr. Kunnen was born in the East End, where he was a member of St. Rose Church. After moving, though, he became a member of St. Lawrence Church in Price Hill in 1910. He maintained his membership there until he died.
"Henry had a great historic knowledge of the Price Hill area," Kunnen said of his cousin. "He liked to bet on the horses and the lottery and the like."
Mass was today at St. Lawrence Church and arrangements were through Gilligan Funeral Home.
