Sister Moira Tobin, taught music 67 years

Sister Moira Tobin, a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati for 67 years, died Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 86.

Sister Moira spent her entire career in the field of music, teaching at grade school, high school and college levels. She taught music at Annunciation School in Clifton from 1952-53 and at St. Mary School, Hyde Park, from 1953 to 1957. She taught at the former Marian High School from 1966-68.

Sister Moira was named director of the piano lab at the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1979, a position she held until she retired in 1984.

Sister Moira was a graduate in music from the College of Mount St. Joseph and received a master's degree in education from Xavier University.

She leaves sisters, Eloise Vogel of Delhi Township, and Kathleen McAndrew and Anna Mae Johnston, both of Marion, Ohio; brothers, the Rev. Patrick Tobin of Africa, the Rev. Robert Tobin of Mexico, Maurice Tobin of Marion, Ohio, and Frank Tobin, of Omaha, Neb.

Mass: 4 p.m. Thursday in the Motherhouse Chapel, Delhi Township. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Motherhouse Heritage Room.

Lawrence Franklin, spent decade in coma

In 1988, Lawrence F. Franklin entered a hospital in Cincinnati for minor surgery, to have a pin inserted in one of his fingers.

He lapsed into a coma and had remained there ever since.

Mr. Franklin, 39, died Saturday at the Whetstone Care Center in Columbus.

Before he was stricken, the native Cincinnatian worked for Metro Messenger Service as a driver.

Mr. Franklin also had served for four years as a heavy vehicle operator in the United State Marine Corps.

Mr. Franklin was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1981. He had achieved the rank of lance corporal.

Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Lucretia; one daughter, Genevieve Louise Franklin; two brothers, Allen and Walter Franklin; and two sisters, Debbie Armwood and Monzell Tarver, all of Cincinnati.

Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Long Funeral Home, Columbus. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Fannie Schwartz, 9, of Indiana

Fannie J.S. Schwartz, 9, of Canaan, Ind., died Tuesday.

She was the daughter of John and Suzie (Schmucker) Schwartz. She attended second-grade at the Scotts Ridge Amish School near Pleasant, Ind.

Services: 9 a.m. EST Friday at the family residence, 1605 Highway 129, Canaan. Visitation: 6 p.m. EST today at the residence. Arrangements: Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay, Ind.

Louis Roedersheimer, salesman and athlete

Louis F. Roedersheimer, 78, a retired salesman for American Bakeries, died Monday.

Mr. Roedersheimer, of Delhi Township, played minor league baseball in the Washington Senators system before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Elder High School.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Ruth Greene Roedersheimer; daughters, Dianne Nolte and Kim Volker; son, Dr. Rick Roedersheimer; brother, Rob Roedersheimer; sisters, Hermina, Rose and Martha Roedersheimer; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were through Radel Funeral Home, Delhi Township. Memorials: Elder High School.

Services for fire victims

Services will be Saturday for a Bond Hill mother and her two children, who died Monday in an apartment fire.

Jennifer Lynne Crawford, 32, her daughter, Afrika Crawford, 2, and her son, Jah-Haile Crawford, 3 months, all died when they fell asleep, leaving candles burning.

The family had lit candles after a power failure due to thunderstorms; their apartment's smoke detector had been removed.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Carthage. Visitation: 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home, Lockland, is handling arrangements.
