Earl Tobey, received new heart July 1
Earl Tobey had a new heart and many plans. But those plans aren't to be realized.
Mr. Tobey, 44, who had undergone a heart transplant July 1, died Saturday morning at his home in Florence, Ky.
"He had it all planned out, what he was going to do. I guess the good Lord had other plans for him," said a cousin, Angela Richardson.
After spending 13 weeks in University Hospital awaiting a donor heart and then recovering from the surgery, Mr. Tobey had intended to move to Cincinnati, to be closer to the hospital.
"He had already paid for the new apartment and had the phone in and everything," said Mrs. Richardson.
Saturday morning his sister, Roni Gilpin and her husband, Jesse, went to help Mr. Tobey move. They found him dead, Mrs. Richardson said.
Since his transplant, Mr. Tobey had talked about fishing, playing his guitar and doing other things his deteriorating health had denied him, his cousin said.
He also leaves his mother, Rebecca Tobey, and a son, Travis.
