The Rev. Monsignor Ferdinand A. Evans, 91, a former Cincinnati parish priest, died Monday in Venice, Fla.

He was pastor of the former St. Matthew parish in Norwood from 1966 until 1978 and associate pastor at three Cincinnati parishes between 1934 and 1940 - St. Louis, St. Andrew and the former Chapel of the Holy Spirit at The Fenwick.

Much of his career was spent as an Army chaplain serving in the battles of the Coral Sea, Bougainville and Guadalcanal, then in the armed forces in Korea and Germany, earning the Legion of Merit award.

The Rev. Monsignor was ordained in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in 1934.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church, Norwood. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church.

William Seaman, attorney

William Rice Seaman, retired lawyer and longtime resident of Indian Hill, died Thursday. He was 89.

A former managing partner of Frost & Jacobs, he joined the law firm in 1933. He was a tax law expert and in the 1950s and '60s was mentor for almost every new associate.

The native of Newton, Mass., was the son of a Methodist minister, attended DePauw University and received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1933. Active in Rotary, Seaman was a past president of Cincinnatus and a recipient of Cincinnati's Bicentennial Award.

He served as lieutenant commander of the Naval First Beach Battalion in World War II at Sicily, Italy and southern France, receiving a Bronze Star.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Martha Steed Seaman, and a daughter, Diana Steinbrueck. He was preceded in death by his son, John.

Reception: 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Krohn Conservatory, Eden Park. Memorials: Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Marion Oelker, musician

Marion Fesler Kelly Oelker, an accomplished musician and teacher, died Monday at the age of 90.

Mrs. Oelker, a native of Saginaw, Mich., came to Cincinnati at age 17, and attended Sacred Heart Academy in Clifton.

After graduation, she attended Holy Name College in Oakland, Calif., and the University of Cincinnati.

She was active in the Clifton Music Club, the Keyboard Club, the English Speaking Union, the Catholic Visitation Society and other philanthropic organizations.

Survivors include daughters, Sue K. Lumb of Cincinnati and Nancy P. Kelly of Bryson City, N.C.; sons, Harry Neil Kelly of Miami, Fla., and John Keene Kelly of Marina del Rey, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was Nov. 6 at St. Mary Church, Hyde Park. George H. Rohde Funeral Home, Mount Lookout, handled arrangements.

ROBERT J. SINGLETON, 74, of Batavia, died Tuesday. Mr. Singleton was a World War II veteran and a retired mail carrier from Batavia Post Office for 25 years. There will be no services or visitation. His body was donated to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Samuel Cohen, partner in Professions Inc.

Samuel N. Cohen, senior partner at an executive search firm, died Saturday. Mr. Cohen, 77, lived in Loveland.

A Cincinnati native, Mr. Co hen graduated from Woodward High School in 1939 and was on the planning committee for his 60th reunion next year. He re ceived a master's degree in busi ness administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1948, after serving as a U.S. Army lieu tenant during WWII.

Mr. Cohen worked in retailing and merchandising for 30 years. He met his wife, Fredericka, at a housewares convention in Atlan tic City in 1951 while he was working as a buyer for the old Rollman's Department Store.

While searching for a new career direction, Mr. Cohen was recruited by the executive search firm he had come to for help. At the time of his death, he was a senior partner at Professions Inc.

Mr. Cohen was membership vice president for the Strategic Leadership Forum, an international society for strategic planning and management. When he retired from the group last year, the Sam Cohen Leadership Award was established in his honor. "He was a well-loved man," said Mrs. Cohen.

"He had a wonderful sense of humor."

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cohen leaves two daughters, Anne Cohen, of New York City, and Sara Fishback of Pittsburgh; three sons, Lt. Col. Andrew Cohen of Woodbridge, Va.; Edward Cohen of Ellettsville, Ind.; and Alfred Cohen of Santiago, Chile; a sister, Esther Zeldin, of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.

Edwin B. Dooley, authority on radio history

Edwin B. Dooley, retired chief engineer for WLWT-TV Channel 5, was considered an authority on radio history. Mr. Dooley, 68, of Madeira, died Friday.

A University of Cincinnati graduate, Mr. Dooley helped convert the former AVCO Broadcasting Corp. stations to color format, and was chief engineer at WLWT-TV from 1961 until he retired in 1987. He was a frequent speaker on radio history and World War II-era films at the Museum Center at Union Terminal. After retiring, he was a consultant for Broadcast Investment Analysts, a financial consulting firm in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Dooley was a member of the Engineering Society of Cincinnati, a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, a director of the Gray History of Wireless Museum and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He's survived by wife, Joyce; two sons, David of Symmes Township and Scott of Milford; a daughter, Ann White of Mason; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Madeira Presbyterian Church. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials: WMKV radio station; Hospice of Cincinnati; or Gray History Wireless Museum. Arrangements: Chas. A. Miller Sons.

Steinmetz services Thursday

A Mass for Arthur C. "Artie" Steinmetz is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X. Church in Edgewood.

Mr. Steinmetz, 19, of Edgewood, died early Sunday in an auto accident on U.S. 27, about 10 miles north of Somerset. A graduate of Covington Catholic High School, Mr. Steinmetz was a student at the University of Kentucky and a defensive tackle on the UK football team. He transferred to the university from Michigan State University, where he also lettered in football.

Survivors are his parents, Marshall "Steve" and Therese Halenkamp Steinmetz of Edgewood; a brother, Matthew, of Elsmere; and grandparents, Margaret Steinmetz of Independence, and Robert and Catherine Halenkamp of Lakeside Park.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius Church. Memorials are suggested to Covington Catholic Scholarship Fund, 1600 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
