Sister Mary Inez Lause, teacher

Longtime teacher and Sister of Charity Mary Inez Lause, 84, died Friday at Mother Margaret Hall nursing home in Delhi Township.

She taught grades four through 12 for 31 years and was a member of the order for 58 years. In Greater Cincinnati, she taught at Holy Cross in Mt. Adams from 1957 to 1959. She also served in pastoral care to the Sisters in Mother Margaret Hall.

She received her bachelor's degree in English from the College of Mount St. Joseph and her master's in English from the University of Detroit.

She leaves a nephew and cousins.

Mass: 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse, Delhi Township. Visitation: 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Heritage Room at the Motherhouse.

John Dome, served Miami U. and Oxford

John Dome, 83, administrator emeritus and former associate professor of geography at Miami University, died Sunday at his home in Oxford, Ohio.

The 1936 graduate of Miami also was well-known for his 'Geography of Wine' course and his column on wine in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

At Miami, he also taught aeronautics and photography and instituted the university's audiovisual service in 1949. He received his master's degree from Miami in 1953 and became director of instructional resource planning and director of audiovisual service in 1968.

Mr. Dome was a former member of the Oxford City Council and planning commission. He was past president of the Oxford Rotary Club and served on the board of McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace. Arrangements: Smith & Ogle Funeral Home.

Dorothy Gibson, retired from Oakley restaurant

Dorothy Gibson, 64, a retired waitress with Nick's Chops & Chasers in Oakley, died Monday.

Mrs. Gibson, of Florence, was a member of Decoursey Baptist Church. Her husband, Prince Gibson, died in 1988.

She leaves sons, Dale Shell of Crescent Springs and Mitch Gibson of Covington; daughters, Debbie Miller of Cincinnati and Michelle Purnell of Florence; brothers, Arnold Rider, Charlie Rider and Gary Rider, all of Covington, and Denny Rider of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Alice Malott of Erlanger, Bert Abney of  Taylor Mill and Brenda McDaniel of Independence; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Helen Rees, dedicated to kids

Helen Rees, 53, owner of Discovery World Day Care in Queensgate, died Wednesday of complications from a recurrence of breast cancer.

'Helen spent every minute of every day for three decades trying to improve the quality of life for children,' said her husband, Jim Rees.

Mrs. Rees, of Milford, Ohio, and a graduate of Ohio State University, was a preschool teacher and elementary school teacher before opening Discovery World in 1989.

Her husband said she demanded that adults give children every opportunity to learn and grow in self-confidence.

Mrs. Rees was called 'Miss Helen' by her students.

'She was as comfortable sitting on the floor and hugging her students as she was in lobbying state legislators for decent salaries for early childhood teachers,' said Jim Rees.

Mrs. Rees was active in Girl Scouts and was a member of 'Bosom Buddies,' a breast cancer support group that started four years ago at Wellness Community.

She also leaves daughters Tracy and Juli of Columbia Township and son Michael of Louisville.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Cemetery's Lakeside Mausoleum. Visitation: noon Saturday at Evans Funeral Home, Milford.

Memorials: Wellness Community or American Cancer Society.

Arthur Glos, leader in Blue Ash

Arthur F. Glos, 85, who helped design the city of Blue Ash as a member of the community's first planning commission, died Tuesday.

He had worked for 40 years as a chemical engineer for the Hilton Davis division of Sterling Drug. The University of Cincinnati graduate was a past director of the Engineering Society of Cincinnati. He also served as chairman of the Blue Ash Board of Site Arrangement and Appeals Board. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Pleasant Ridge.

He leaves his wife, Martha; sons, Arthur of Noblesville, Ind., and Merrill of Blue Ash; and two grandchildren.

Services: noon Friday at Strawser Funeral Home, Blue Ash. Visitation: 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
