Dr. Beverly A. Evert, veterinarian
Dr. Beverly A. Evert, a veterinarian here for more than 20 years, died Friday at her home in Pleasant Ridge. She was 44.
'Everybody who knew her was struck with her determination and courage in the face of some long illnesses,' said her mother, Marjorie Evert.
The Woodward High School graduate received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Cincinnati at age 19. She earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ohio State University.
She began her practice in Cincinnati in 1978 and worked in orthopedic surgery and cardiology at the Avon Animal and Bird Hospital, the Tennessee Avenue Hospital and the Deer Park Veterinary Clinic.
She taught at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College where she also earned an associate degree in business financial m anagement technology. Dr. Evert was president and a trustee of the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association, a member of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensin g Board and received a distinguished service award as its president in 1992.
She also was devoted to children and served as a volunteer for World Vision. She was a volunteer for the SPCA where she organized animal care educational programs at local schools and provided veterinary care at local animal shows.
Dr. Evert also leaves her father, Carl Evert; a daughter, Avery Nichole; and two sisters, Caroline and Kathleen Evert, all of Cincinnati.
Services: 4 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. Arrangements: Bielhauer-Clepper Funeral Home.

'Lucky Penny Man' Richard G. Davis
Loveland's Richard G. Davis was 'The Lucky Penny Man.'
'Everywhere he went, he gave people a penny and told them it was their lucky penny for the day,' said Mr. Davis' daughter, Merry Sheets.
Mr. Davis, 69, who worked 42 years as an assembler at GE Aircraft Engines in Evendale, died Friday after a three-year battle with cancer.
The father of 10 children and seven grandchildren was in grave condition, but told his family he wanted to survive Christmas and New Year, said an
other daughter, Patti Timmons.
Mr. Davis, whose wife, June, died seven months ago, leaves a legacy of love, said his children.
'He was very loving and giving,' said Mrs. Sheets.
He also leaves sons Michael, Kerry and Randy and daughters Kathy Sisco, Christine Hinkle, Lori Kieffer, Teri Davis and Sherry Soel.
Arrangements were through Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, Loveland.

Margaret Sprigg sang in Schuster-Martin School of Drama and Art She was active at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. She was the first woman elected to the Session, served as a trustee and was a past president of the Woman's Association. She also was a member of the Cincinnati Woman's Club, a president of the Women's City Club and a charter member of Volunteers in Public Schools.
Mrs. Sprigg was a past president of the Greater Cincinnati Council on Epilepsy, trustee of United Home Care and an organizing member of Easy Riders and Telecare. From 1939 to 1989 she served on various boards and committees for Community Chest of Cincinnati.
She leaves her husband, William C. Sprigg; sons, Richard R. Sprigg and Douglas C. Sprigg and three grandchildren.

Robert H. Ormston, Cinergy gas director
Robert H. Ormston, 75, who served as director of gas design and distribution at Cinergy Corp. for 41 years, died Sunday in Venic e, Fla.
The Purdue University graduate served on the American Gas Association Design and Development Committee and was an editor of the National Gas Association Magazine. He received the Natural Gas Association Silver Award for Merit for service to the industry before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Ormston was a master of the Oakley Masonic Lodge 668 and received the Silver Beaver Award for his many years of volunteer service to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a 45-year member of the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church, where he was treasurer for the Board of Deacons.
With the rank lieutenant senior grade in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Ormston served in World War II and the
Korean War.
The native Cincinnatian had been a winter resident of Venice for the past 18 years.
He leaves his wife, Helen R. Ormston; son, Robert Ormston of Colorado Springs; daughter, Nola Jacobs; and sister, Amy Hummel, both of Cincinnati.
