Glendora Miller, wrote scout song
Glendora Gosling Miller, a Cincinnati native who was active in the Girl Scouts throughout her life, died Saturday at her home in Locust Grove, Va. She was 91.
She joined the scouts in the 1920s when the organization was in its infancy and later wrote the words to the Girl Scouts song, 'Peace.'
She leaves her husband, Frank George Miller; daughters, Susan Anderson of Boulder, Colo., and Nancy Miller of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Julia Kelly Ryan, 96, entertainer, promoter
Julia Kelly Ryan gave Doris Day her first professional dancing job and brought entertainers like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Rosemary and Betty Clooney to town for shows in a 45-year career as a producer of shows and conventions.
Mrs. Ryan, 96, a former Cincinnati resident, died Saturday in Hollywood, Fla. She moved to Hollywood from Price Hill about 10 years ago.
She was a professional singer on WLW radio before forming her own entertainment company - Julia Kelly Entertainment. Mrs. Ryan was the first woman admitted to the then all-male Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce in 1938, her family said.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John J. Ryan, and leaves son, Patrick Kelly Ryan of Hollywood, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Freda "Fritzie' Fischer, community volunteer
Freda 'Fritzie' Fischer, 83, of Hyde Park, a volunteer for many community organizations, died Tuesday.
Mrs. Fischer began her volunteer work with the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the 1940s and was a lifetime member of the Junior Cooperative Society of Children's Hospital.
She also volunteered for the Fine Arts Fund Drive, the Girl Scouts and the Cincinnati Garden Center's Christmas Caravan. She was a former member of the Cincinnati Women's Club and the Town Club.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, Carl Fischer; children, Bonnie Smyth, Steve Fischer and Sally Ahrens, all of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.

Sidney Nelson, left mark on theme parks
Sidney William 'Skip' Nelson, 68, founder of Cincinnati companies that specialized in electric motor controls for roller coasters, died Sunday of heart failure in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The former Anderson resident played key roles in developing the entry fountains at Paramount's Kings Island, and the controls and safety braking systems on the Beast, the Twin Racers and the Scooby Doo.
He invented fail-safe controls for coasters that were used across the country. He also helped design and develop the Louisville Falls Fountain.
Mr. Nelson attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati. He was a service engineer at Cincinnati Milacron and later a sales and district manager for Clark Controller Co. until founding Nelcor Inc. He also founded Aetna Electric Inc.
He served on the executive committee of the National Fire Protection Association and chaired the International Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
He leaves his wife, Cynthia L. Nelson; son Michael J. Nelson and daughter Jennifer L. Casebier, both of Winter Park, Fla; stepson Bart E. Rowland and stepdaughter Rebecca L. Rowland, both of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren. His former wife, Ada Mae Howard Nelson preceded him in death in 1981.

Sister Grace Elizabeth Meikenhous, teacher
Sister of Charity Grace Elizabeth Meikenhous, a high school language teacher for 43 years, died Monday.
The 94-year-old Dayton, Ohio, native would have celebrated her 75th anniversary as a Sister of Charity this summer. In Greater Cincinnati, Sister Grace Elizabeth taught at Mount St. Joseph Academy and Seton High School. 'She was a woman of quiet elegance and grace, true to her name,' recalled Sister Grace Ann Gratsch.
She leaves leaves several nieces and nephews.
