Janice G. Pantel, served her community

Janice G. Pantel, 51, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday. Ms. Pantel worked for Fluor Daniel.

She also was active in the Daughters of Penelope, a philanthropic Greek-American Organization, and held a number of offices including secretary of Buckeye #11 Lodge; past chapter secretary, vice president and president of Calypso Chapter, Cincinnati; past secretary and vice president of Methone Chapter, Youngstown.

She leaves her husband, U.S. Attorney Nicholas Pantel; three sons, John, Christopher, and Alexander of Cincinnati; two brothers, William Glaros of Youngstown, and Ronald of Michigan; three sisters, Lucille Vechiarella of San Diego, Linda Saulino of Canfield, Ohio, and Katheryne (CQ) Keish of Boardman, Ohio.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 7000 Winton Road, Cincinnati. Visitation: 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home, 8611 Winton Road, Cincinnati. Memorials: Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on behalf of Janice Glaros Pantel.

WILLIAM 'BILL' HAROLD CORNELIUS, 61, of Lake Wales, Fla., formerly of Lawrenceburg, Ind., died Thursday. He was a retired fireman and oiler for Seagrams Distillery. William O. Harrison, friend of youth

William Ollis Harrison Jr. was not a pharmacist, but had the right prescription for getting along with youngsters.

Mr. Harrison had converted an old pharmacy into an ice cream shop and youth dance hall in Butler in Pendleton County, Ky.

'It was the place to go,' Mr. Harrison's daughter, Betty Dunn, of Butler, said of the store operated by her father from 1949 to the early 1980s. He practically raised many of the kids.'

Mr. Harrison, 83, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He also had been a former mayor and City Council member of Butler, and helped bring the first doctor to the community.

Other survivors include another daughter, Joy Greenwell of Butler; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation: 6-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials: Butler Baptist Church, Butler, Ky. 41006; or the charity of donor's choice.

Margaret Jackson, senior track champion
Margaret  Jackson began running at age 70 to help her keep busy after the death of her husband, Robert F. Jackson.

She continued running and brought home the gold in the National Senior Olympics.

Mrs. Jackson, 87, of College Hill, died Friday.

'She was pretty super. She was dynamic,' said a daughter, Melanie  Jackson of College Hill.

To qualify for the national competition, Mrs.  Jackson first had to win in local and state competition, held in Cincinnati and Akron. She won 11 gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze medal.

She went on to compete in the Senior Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, in 1987 and brought home a gold in the 100-meter dash and silver medals in the 200-meter and 400-meter races and the long jump.

'It was a great experience,' Mrs.  Jackson told The Post then.

'There were all those countries and a lot of the fun was we couldn't communicate. They did not speak our language, and we did not speak theirs, but we could make signs, and we wound up friends.'

Other survivors include daughters,

Diane St. Clair of Cincinnati and Roberta Reiter of Villa Hills, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and six grandchildren.

Mass is at 10 a.m. today at St. Vivian Church, Finneytown. Hodapp Funeral Home, College Hill, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Hospice of Cincinnati or the American Cancer Society.

Rev. Norman Perry, editor since '81
of St. Anthony Messenger magazine

The Rev. Norman Perry OFM, editor in chief of St. Anthony Messenger magazine since 1981, loved people.

'He was kind to everybody,' said his twin brother, William Perry. 'He was always the diplomat, the peacekeeper. People would come to him with their problems. His whole life was just so good.'

Father Perry, a native Cincinnatian, died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital of heart failure complicated by kidney problems and diabetes.. He underwent surgery for a cancerous colon tumor Feb. 17 and never regained his strength. He was 69.

'He was pretty easy-going,' said another brother, Joseph Perry. 'He liked to sit around and talk. He was a well-rounded person, and he was interested in people. He had various health problems, but he just lived with it. He was not one to complain.'

Father Perry was the son of Joseph S. and May A. Hafertepe Perry and was raised in Mount Auburn. Baptized at St. George Church, he graduated from Holy Name Elementary School, Roger Bacon High School, cum laude from Duns Scotus College, Holy Family Friary in Oldenburg, Ind., and St. Leonard College in Centerville, Ohio.

He was ordained in 1958. He has served at St. Clement in St. Bernard; St. Therese; Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Ind.; the Friarhurst Retreat House; St. Francis Friary; and St. William Parish in Price Hill.

Father Perry won numerous awards for his writing and editing at the St. Anthony Messenger. In 1996, he won the Salesian Guild's Distinguished Communicator Award.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mary Tore, Ann Koize and Ruth Smith.

Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Clement Church in St. Bernard. Visitation at 6 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Cemetery in St. Bernard.
