Jack L. Thomas, owner of a pharmacy
Jack L. Thomas, a pharmacist and owner of Hooks Drug Stores in Madison and Hanover, Ind., died Tuesday at age 60.
Mr. Thomas, who lived in Madison, was a graduate of Purdue University and started in pharmacy in 1960 at Mills Drug Store in Kokomo, Ind. He then moved to the Hooks Drug Store in Kokomo and later opened Hooks Drug Stores in Madison and Hanover, Ind.
Survivors are his wife, Sue; two sons, David of Lexington, Ind., and Mark of Plainfield, Ind.; his mother, Lucille Thomas of Kokomo; a sister, Cheryl Thomas of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a grandson.

Walter Whatley, real estate agent
Walter Leslie Whatley's life focused on being a success in business and becoming a community leader.
He had been a district manager for an insurance company in Cincinnati and eventually opened his own accounting and real estate office in Covington. Mr. Whatley also became involved in the NAACP and the American Legion, where he served as commander for several years.
Mr. Whately, 84, died Tuesday at his home in Covington.
'He was a person who loved people,' said his sister, Mary Northington of Covington.
Mr. Whatley was inducted as the first black member of the Cincinnati Life Underwriters. He also was involved in several efforts to establish youth services, including the building of a YMCA. Mr. Whatley was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church in Covington, where every Christmas he would give each child attending Sunday School a dollar.
Other survivors are a son, Roderick Stewart of Covington; daughters, Tonya Whatley Lane and Linda Whatley Hadden, both of Cincinnati, and Patricia Henderson of Covington; four sisters, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Barry Horwitz, trained at UC
Dr. Barry Horwitz, 61, of Dayton, Ohio, died Feb. 28 at home.
A native of Cincinnati, Dr. Horwitz was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy and earned his medical degree at the UC College of Medicine.
After serving at the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C., he returned to the UC College of Medicine to complete his training in dermatology. He established a practice in Dayton and was a member of Beth Jacob Synagogue.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Horwitz; a daughter, Cheryl Horwitz of Dayton; a son, Ron Horwitz of West Chester, Ohio; brothers, Lester Horwitz of Cincinnati and David Horwitz of Frankfurt, Germany; and one grandchild.
Graveside services were held Monday at Beth Jacob Cemetery, Dayton. VIVIAN GRACE FRASIER BOHLE, 78, of Aurora, Colo., died Feb. 4. She retired from Distributors Center. A memorial service was held Feb. 12th at Galilee Baptist Church. Moore-Howard Aurora-Chase Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
