Charles Kemplin, active in retirement
Charles R. Kemplin spent much of his life working for the Ohio Knife Co. in Cincinnati. In retirement, he turned to helping his community's school, working for many years as a crossing guard.
Mr. Kemplin, 84, of Fort Thomas, Ky., died Friday at his home.
Mr. Kemplin took the crossing guard's job near a grocery store/service station operated by his son, Charles.
'He was in the store about every day, talking with people,' another son, Earl, said of his father. 'He got along with everybody.'
Other survivors include his wife, Edith Kemplin; a son, Lonnie Kemplin, of Fort Thomas; daughter, Flo McGill of Alexandria; a sister, Mary Ellen Bischoff of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

John S. Blossom, co-founded engineering firm
John Siebert Blossom, co-founder of the Ziel-Blossom & Associates engineering firm, died Sunday at his Madeira home. He was 81.
Mr. Blossom served in the Naval Reserve as an instructor in mathematics and electricity during World War II, and later became a registered professional engineer.
Together with Perry Ziel, he formed Ziel-Blossom & Associates, and was recognized for his pioneering work in the field of high temperature hot wa ter systems. He lectured at many professional seminars dealing with heating, refrigeration and numerous other technical topics, and was a published technical writer.
Mr. Blossom was a fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, and a past chairman of the organization's publishing, research and education councils. He also served as vice president of the society.
He also was an active member of the National Arbitration Association, performing construction case arbitration.
He leaves his wife, Harriet Snowdon Blossom; and son, John A. Blossom of Louisville.

Lowell D. Sasser, fire chief and railroad historian
Lowell D. Sasser, 74, a retired Connersville, Ind., fire chief and Whitewater Valley Railroad historian, died Saturday.
The Connersville native, who retired as fire chief in 1968, spent 22 years as the volunteer historian for the railroad tourist attraction traveling between Connersville and Metamora, Ind. He rode the rails at least 1,555 times, sometimes playing the harmonica, he once told The Post.
'He was also involved in training our new volunteers each year,' railroad office manager Jim Revalee said of Mr. Sasser. 'He came down two Saturdays ago carrying his oxygen tank with him. It was tough (because of emphysema), but you couldn't keep Lowell away.'
Mr. Sasser leaves his wife, Wilma Graw Sasser of Connersville; son: Ron ald Sasser of West Carrollton, Ohio; stepsons: Steve Graw of Milton, Ind. and Michael Graw, of Scottsburg, Ind.; brother, Thurman Sasser of Burnsville, N.C.; sister, Thelma Barnes, of Burnsville, N.C.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Hope Johnson Tiemeyer, volunteer
Hope Johnson Tiemeyer, 90, president and owner of Mailway Advertising Co. from 1955 to 1987, died Friday.
The Cincinnati resident was involved in numerous community activities and organizations, including: the Mayor's Friendly Relations Committee; Junior American Red Cross Committee; March of Dimes; Girl Scouts of America; Zonta Club of Cincinnati; Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee; Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Women's Committee; Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge; Cincinnati Social Health Committee; Singleton's of Cincinnati Club; American Association of University Women; and Newtown Garden Club.
She also was a member of the Cincinnati Club, Cincinnati Woman's Club and the Town Club. Mrs. Tiemeyer held local, state and national offices in both Daughters of the American Revolution and Children of the American Revolution.
When her children were young, Mrs. Tiemeyer was active in PTA, serving as president of Newtown Elementary PTA, president of Hamilton County Council and state treasurer.
Her husband, Edwin H. Tiemeyer, died in 1955. A son, Edwin H. Tiemeyer Jr., also preceded her in death. She leaves a daughter, Ann Tiemeyer Lewin of Anderson Township; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Tiemeyer donated her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials: American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation.

John Ruffner Blakely, Fort Mitchell attorney
John Ruffner Blakely, a prominent lawyer in Northern Kentucky, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
The Fort Mitchell resident was 87.
He was one in a long line of lawyers in the Blakely family, one of the oldest families in Kenton County. In 1937, he joined a local unit of the National Guard, Troop F, and the 123rd Kentucky Cavalry. His grandfather was a Confederate soldier, and his father served in World War I.
Mr. Blakely, a lawyer for more than 60 years, earned his law degree from Chase Law School.
He was very active in many civic and professional organizations, including the Christopher Gist Historical Society, Northern Kentucky and Kentucky bar associations and the Kentucky Historical Society.
He also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Fort Mitchell.
Mr. Blakely's home was special to him. His father, Stephens L. Blakely, designed and built the house he called Beechwood in 1913; it sits on eight re maining acres in Fort Mitchell.
Mr. Blakely loved camping, canoeing, rafting and fishing.
His wife, Jane Reardon Blakely, died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Marc J. Reardon of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Patty J. Reardon of Villa Hills, Mardee A. O'Meara of Cincinnati and Mary L. Langenbrunner of Johnson City, Tenn.; a sister, Jane B. Woodrough of Belleair, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Mass: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
