Ronald Boyer, UC psychology professor

Ronald Keith Boyer, 62, a University of Cincinnati professor of psychology since 1967 and a former utility company president, died Sunday.

At UC, the Clifton resident served as director of the graduate program in social psychology, coordinator of the Pre-personnel and Industrial Relations Program for the past 19 years, coordinator of long-range planning and director of the Institute for Research and Training in Higher Education.

From 1970 until 1994, Mr. Boyer was president of the Eldorado Water Co. in Illinois. Prior to coming to UC, he worked as an organizational consultant for several companies.

Among academic honors, Mr. Boyer received the 1996 Psi Chi William Hewett Jr. Award for Teaching; the 1994 Psi Chi Belenky Award; the Psi Chi Distinguished Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentor in 1986 and 1988; and the 1984 Psi Chi Distinguished Faculty Award for Outstanding Teacher.

He earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, a master's degree in behavioral science and a doctorate in organizational behavior at the then-Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland.

He leaves a son Kenneth Boyer of LaGrange, Ill.; daughter, Tracy Boyer, of St. Paul, Minn.; and a grandson.

Visitation: 4 p.m. today at Miller, Busse & Borgmann Funeral Home, Clifton. Services: 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials: Hospice of Cincinnati.

Rev. Francis X. Hoffer, care home chaplain

Rev. Francis X. Hoffer, OFM, 81, of Delhi Township, died May 11 at Bayley Place Nursing Home, where he had served as chaplain.

Survivors include brothers, Father Charles J. Hoffer, JCD, of Covington and Ralph Hoffer of Fort Mitchell; and a sister, Frances Hoffer of Fort Mitchell.

Raymond Motley, sportscaster and legislator

Raymond Motley, a sportscaster and former member of the Ohio House of Representatives, died Monday. He was 87.

Mr. Motley moved to Florida in 1992 from the Cincinnati area. Mr. Motley was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1958 and served one term. He worked for more than 30 years at WMOH radio in Hamilton, Ohio, where he was sports director and station manager.

Mr. Motley gave Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Joe Nuxhall his first job in radio, hiring him to do color commentary for Miami University baseball games in the 1960s in Oxford, Ohio.

Mr. Motley also covered Woody Hayes' final game as Miami's head football coach in 1950. Arrangements are pending.
