Services for Lorene Ellen Allen, 94, of Avondale, who died Sunday, were this morning at Old St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in Price Hill. Mass originally was scheduled at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, but fire there Tuesday necessitated the change. Arrangements were through Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home.

Hazel Norris, church and youth volunteer
Hazel Norris of Evanston was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and a dedicated member of Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ, Mount Auburn.
She worked tirelessly helping inner-city youth and worked at the Neighborhood House in the West End. She also was assistant director of the Upward Bound program at the University of Cincinnati.
Mrs. Norris, 69, a native of Barbourville, Ky., died Tuesday.
After retirement, she helped her son with his restaurant, the Bar-B-Q Hut, in the West End and was known as "Momma Hut."
She also enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and decorating.
She leaves her husband, Arthur R. Norris; daughter, Alice Jones Hyatt; sons, Robert C. Jones and Raymond Norris; sister, Frances Jackson; and brother, Earnest Thompson.
Services: noon Saturday at Cathedral of Praise Church of God In Christ. Visitation: 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements: Renfro Funeral Service.

Mary Jane Bernet, nurse and champion golfer
Mary Jane Bernet, 78, a Western Hills homemaker and noted golfer, died Saturday.
Mrs. Bernet also was a nurse and a former board member of the Visiting Nurses Association, said a daughter Judith Evans, of Cincinnati.
Mrs. Bernet was a member of the Western Hills Country Club women's golf team for more than 20 years and was a past president of the Greater Cincinnati Women's Golf Association. She was an eight-time winner of the Women's Golf Championship at the club and with her husband, Frank, won the Husband-Wife Tournament numerous times.
The graduate of Western Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati leaves another daughter, Pamela Salatich of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Westwood United Methodist Church.

Frieda B. Schmeusser, loved books
Frieda B. Schmeusser was rarely without a book.
"One her favorite things to do was to read books," said her daughter, Shirley Tuemler of Edgewood, Ky. "That's one of my favorite things to do, too.
"She just read all the time. She would put one book down and pick up another one. She would read things over and over because she just liked the process of reading."
Mrs. Schmeusser, 90, of Florence, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. Mrs. Schmeusser was a busy person who loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren, Mrs. Tuemler said. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sewing and quilting, her daughter said.
At Colonial Heights, a retirement community in Florence where Mrs. Schmeusser lived for 13 years, she was always lending a helping hand.
"If there was somebody who couldn't get around, she was there to help them," Mrs. Tuemler said.
Other survivors include a son, Carl Schmeusser of Medford, Ore.; a sister, Alma Puisegur of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to the local library of the donor's choice.

Elmer Siehl, 98, 'served the poor'
Elmer Frederick Siehl continued his weekly deliveries to food pantries and soup kitchens until nine months before his death Wednesday at age 98.
"He served the poor in God's name," said his daughter, Paula Louise Siehl of Cincinnati. "He was always compassionate and kind, courteous and considerate."
The 1924 economics graduate of the University of Cincinnati joined his father in the Davis & Siehl Co., which manufactured iron work, steel fencing and railings, said another daughter, Marian Siehl Neefus, of Chesapeake, Va. He worked his way up to president of the company before retiring in 1974.
He was an elder at North Presbyterian Church, was active in the Rotary Club of Cincinnati, and was president of the Cincinnati Executives Association.
Mr. Siehl made at least three deliveries a week of food to Northside Food Pantry, S.O.N. Ministries, St. Joseph Orphanage, Storehouse Ministries in Covington and Hamilton, the Salvation Army and New Life Baptist Church.
He also leaves sons, Jonathan Carl Siehl of Worthington, Ohio, and Chris Mark Siehl of Ann Arbor, Mich.
