Lucile Murray Durkin, active in Catholic lay movement

Lucile Murray Durkin, 90, active in many Catholic endeavors in Cincinnati, died Wednesday.

Mrs. Durkin was a former vice president of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.

In 1968, she was among the founders of the Archdiocesan Council of the Laity, which evolved into the Lay Pastoral Council. She served on the central planning and budget commission of the council.

Mrs. Durkin also served on the Archdiocesan School Board from 1963 to 1967 and represented the Archdiocese of Cincinnati at the first convention of the Metropolitan Area Religious Coalition of Cincinnati in 1969.

She also was involved in the League of Women Voters, Xavier Family Life Conference and parish activities at the Church of the Nativity in Pleasant Ridge, most notably in liturgy planning in the post-Vatican II era of the Catholic church.

Mrs. Durkin and her husband, Lawrence, collaborated for many years in adult spiritual development for couples, in-home based study and discussion groups, paving the way for Catholic lay persons to take leadership roles in the post-Vatican II era.

She also was one of the founding members of the Kennedy Heights Community Council.

In the 1930s, she worked at the Ohio Democratic Party headquarters in Columbus.

Survivors include daughters Mary Cabrini Durkin of Cincinnati, Sheila Durkin Dierks of Boulder, Colo., and Frances Durkin Colletti of St. Louis; sisters Alice Stuntebeck of Ironton, Ohio, Kathryn Murray and Jeanette Huddleston of San Francisco and Ann Miller of Springfield, Va., and brother Ralph Murray of Bellevue, Wash.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Gilligan Funeral Home in Kenwood. Services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Nativity Church.

Memorials may be made to the Ursulines of Cincinnati, 1339 E. McMillan St., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45206.

Carl T. Brown, sold automobiles

Carl T. Brown, 81, of Milan, Ind., died Friday. He worked as a car salesman for 25 years for various dealers, including Versailles Motors, Dallas Smock Motors and Chris Volz Auto Sales in Versailles and Milan.

He also was a funeral attendant with Bovard's Funeral Home, Versailles, Ind., and Laws-Carr & Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Mr. Brown also was an auctioneer for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel V. Brown, and a son Rolland Brown.

He is survived by two brothers: Robert E. Brown of Rising Sun, Ind., and Fred W. Brown of Freeport, Ill.; two sisters: Grace E. Brown of Milan and Carabell Crandell of Moorefield, Ind. and a stepsister, Clara Burroughs of Vevay.

Services: 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Visitation: 5 to 8 tonight and from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Indiana Masonic Home or Brushy Fork Baptist Church Building Fund.

Roy Ladrigan, golf course superintendent

Roy H. Ladrigan, 62, the superintendent of the Kenton County Golf Course, died Sunday.

Mr. Ladrigan worked at the Kenton County course for 19 years. Before that, he worked 17 years at the Royal Oak Golf Course in Clermont County.

"He brought the golf course to a world-class condition, which isn't easy to do with a municipal golf course," said County Treasurer Ivan Frye.

The Independence, Ky., resident was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Ohio Valley Walking Horse Association, Greater Cincinnati Superintendents Association and Kentucky Turf Grass. He raised swans and donated many to the Kentucky Horse Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and Mason Christian Village.

Mr. Ladrigan leaves his wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Diane Hatley of Glen Este, Ohio, Connie Wise of New Richmond, Ohio, and Jo McClanahan of Amelia, Ohio; sister, Kay Eichhorn of New Richmond; brothers, Jack W. Ladrigan of Florida; Lou Ladrigan and Dale A. Ladrigan both of Amelia; and six grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Elzene Trimble, editor's spouse

Elzene Miller Trimble, 87, of Kenton Hills, Ky., died Monday at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was the wife of former Kentucky Post Editor Vance Trimble.

During their marriage, she was a sounding board during his journalistic rise that tookthem to Houston, and then to Washington, D.C., where he won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 1960.

The couple designed and built several homes together. They moved to Kenton Hills in 1963, when Mr. Trimble was named editor of The Kentucky Post.

She also leaves a daughter, Carol Ann Nordheimer of Wilmington, Del.; and a sister, Edwina Cline of Houston, Texas .

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, and 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka, Okla. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.

Lorraine Moorman-Chambers

Lorraine M. Moorman-Chambers, 48, of North Avondale, a Cincinnati Public Schools teacher, died Friday of breast cancer.

The University of Cincinnati graduate taught in the city schools for 27 years, beginning her career at Winton Terrace Elementary and later Taft Elementary.

An active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Mrs. Moorman-Chambers was a Walnut Hills High School graduate and served on the school's parent board.

She also was a member of the Walnut Hills High School Association, the Athletic Boosters and was a Victory Level Supporter of S.O.S.

She leaves her husband of 25 years, Charles P. Chambers; son, Charles Aaron Chambers; and daughter Christyn Patricia Chambers; and parents, Verna Baughman and Edward Moorman.

Arrangements were through Renfro Funeral Service, Inc., Avondale.

Memorials: Breast Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.
