Robert McKay, dentist in Vevay
J. Robert "Bob" McKay, 76, of Vevay, Ind., a dentist, died Tuesday.
In March 1953, Dr. McKay opened his dental office on Main Street in Vevay, where he served Switzerland County residents until November 1980, when he retired due to illness.
"South of Highway 40 - the entire southern half of Indiana - there was no one who did the quality of work that he did," said Dr. Robert Findley, who began his dental practice after Dr. McKay retired. "It was spectacular stuff."
Dr. McKay held a variety of positions in the Indiana Dental Association, was president of the Switzerland County Board of Health and was a past president of the Southeastern Indiana Dental Association. Dr. McKay was also president of the Vevay Kiwanis Club, a member of the Swiss Wine Festival Committee and a member of Switzerland Masonic Lodge 122 F&AM, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.
Dr. McKay played first cornet in the Scottish Rite Symphony and played in the marching band of the Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis.
In 1947, he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University and bought a practice from one of his professors in Indianapolis, where he remained until 1951.
A U.S. Navy veteran, McKay served in the
Korean War until 1953, then later served in the Naval Reserves until February 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Tilley McKay; sons, John McKay of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeff McKay of New York City; two grandchildren; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Dr. McKay was cremated Thursday and no public services were conducted.
Friends may call on the family at their home today through Tuesday in the afternoon and evening hours in the 200 block of East Main Street, Vevay.

Henrietta Bieger encouraged education
Henrietta Elizabeth Bieger's love of education led her to push her sons in school and to become involved in their schools.
When they attended St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, she became president of the Mothers' Club. While they were at St. Benedict Elementary School in Covington, she was the president of the Parent-Teacher Association.
Mrs. Bieger, 92, of Covington, died Friday in St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright.
"It made me real proud of her. There weren't many things she was involved in that she didn't become a leader," said W. G. "Bill" Bieger, Fort Mitchell, of his mother.
Mrs. Bieger's three sons became a physician/attorney, an engineer and an accountant, her son said.
Other survivors include sons, Dr. R. Cyril Bieger of Seattle and Thomas Bieger of Erlanger; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bieger's husband, R. Cyril, died in 1984.
Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Church. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington.

Visitation tonight for Kenneth Middendorf
Services will be tonight for Kenneth M. Middendorf, one of three people killed Aug. 16 in a boating accident on the Ohio River.
Mr. Middendorf, 36, of Cleves, was on a boat with his wife, Kimberly, 35, and friends, Scott and Pam Martini, a Price Hill couple that also perished in the accident.
Ms. Middendorf suffered serious injuries in the accident that occurred after a rock concert at Riverbend Music Center. She continues to recuperate from those injuries.
Searchers found the bodies of Mr. Middendorf and the Martinis several days after the accident.
Other survivors are a son, Gregory; a daughter, Amanda; parents, James and Delores Middendorf; three brothers, James, Steven and Thomas Middendorf; and two sisters, Michele Gilday and Melissa Perleberg.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Rebold Funeral Home, 3700 Glenmore Ave., Cheviot. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, 25 E. Harrison Ave., North Bend.

William Hausberg, former Jergens CEO
William Hausberg, the former president and chief operating officer of the Cincinnati-based Andrew Jergens Co. died Sunday at University Hospital from complications of Hodgkin's disease.
Mr. Hausberg, 86, of Amberley Village, started working for Jergens in 1956 and served as head of the company from 1971-74.
After retiring, Mr. Hausberg pursued personal interests in jazz and stock markets, said his daughter-in-law, Meg Hausberg, of Lake Forest, Ill. He supported the Salvation Army and did work for the United Way, she said.
The Iowa native graduated from Yale University and completed the Havard Business School's Advanced Management Program. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
"His life spans a really remarkable number of years of this century," Mrs. Hausberg said.
He leaves sons, Mark of Lake Forest, Ill., and Peter of Lake Forest, Calif.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Marian.
