Norman Grant, Miami U. geology professor
Norman K. Grant, professor emeritus of geology at Miami University in Oxford, died July 31 in Appleton, Wis. He was 65.
The native of Edinburgh, Scotland, was known for his research into the atomic formations of the earth's crust. He earned his doctorate at the University of Edinburgh, in 1961. He also taught at the University of Oxford and the University of Leeds, the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and Oberlin College. He came to Miami in 1975 and retired in 1995.
He leaves daughters, Alexandra Grant and Florence Grant; and sons, Olaf Grant, Finn Grant and Karl Grant.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Miami's Kumler Chapel.

Robert Breitenbach, Madeira businessman
Madeira businessman Robert G. Breitenbach died Saturday. He was 81.
"He was just an old-generation type that kind of worked hard, took care of his family and really didn't seek any praise," said his son, Thomas Breitenbach, president of Premier Health Partners.
During the Great Depression Mr. Breitenbach, 81, of Loveland, dropped out of school at age 15 to work in his father's plumbing store and help support the family. He stayed with Breitenbach Plumbing - now in Madeira - until his death.
Mr. Breitenbach attended night classes at the University of Cincinnati for 18 years and graduated in 1964, the same year his oldest son, Robert, now of Evergreen, Colo., graduated. He also started a Boy Scout Troop at St. Gertrude Church in Madeira and was a leader in getting Freedom Shrines - displays that include the Constitution and Declaration of Independence - displayed in public places.
He leaves another son, John, of Batavia; brothers, Vernon, of Lebanon, and Paul, of Madeira; and five grandchildren.

Harold Kassen, banker and volunteer
Harold H. Kassen, who worked for the First National Bank of Lockland for 42 years and dedicated much of his life to volunteer work, died died Tuesday. He was 92.
"He organized family and friends, and every year we decorated Easter eggs for all the patients at Drake Hospital," said his niece, Ruth Schnier. "All the patients received one."
Mr. Kassen, of Hartwell, began at the bank as a teller and eventually worked his way up to vice president before retiring at age 65. He did volunteer fund-raising for the American Heart Association and organized honorary awards for the Dan Beard Boy Scouts, his niece said.
The Reading native also traveled with his best friend, William Christman, on cruises and to Europe. He was a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ.
Mr. Kassen also leaves a 103-year-old sister, Henrietta Schrank of Wyoming.

C. Jackson Cromer, lawyer
C. Jackson Cromer, 78, an estate and tax attorney, died Wednesday.
Mr. Cromer spent his 50-year career as a partner at the law firm of Thompson, Hine and Florey.
" Jackson was more than just a good attorney, he was a trusted adviser and friend," said Stan Johnson, a client and former owner of Van Luenens and All About Sports.
A 1948 Harvard University Law School graduate, Mr. Cromer began his career the following year with the law firm of Gatch, Kleinman, Roberts & Kuhn. He graduated from Withrow High School, then earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati.
An avid bird hunter and fisherman, Mr. Cromer enjoyed hunting with his sons in the eastern Ohio hills and flyfishing in Michigan.
Survivors: three sons, Jeff and Richard, both of Seattle, and Michael Cromer of Anderson Township; and two grandchildren.
