Jean C. Rolfes, Gibson card designer

Jean C. Rolfes "loved religion, and she loved animals," said her niece and namesake, Jean Rolfes of Cincinnati.

"If there was a fly in the house, she would let it out. She wouldn't kill it."

Miss Rolfes, 74, of Fort Thomas Ky., died Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was a designer with Gibson Greeting Cards and a member of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring and the Campbell County Humane Society.

Other survivors include a nephew, Dr. Donald Rolfes of Cincinnati.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation begins there at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Robert Dale Johnson, union negotiator

Robert Dale Johnson, who was a top official of the Communications Workers of America union in the Midwest, died Sunday at his home in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was 67.

Mr.  Johnson retired in 1994 after serving seven years as the Midwest regional vice president of the union and was responsible for negotiating the union's region-wide collective bargaining agreements with Ameritech.

His area of responsibility included Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean War and worked for 22 years for General Telephone of Ohio before being appointed to the union staff in 1974.

Mr.  Johnson was a vice president of the AFL-CIO in Ohio and Michigan.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, Sharon Price Johnson; a daughter, Theresa  Johnson Mantell, and four grandchildren.

Mass at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth. Memorials to Notre Dame Elementary School, 1401 Gallia St., Portsmouth, Ohio, 45662.

HARLAN "CHICK" MORRIS JR., 73, of Florence, Ky., died Tuesday. He was an entertainer for 55 years, fronting the Chick Morris Trio that performed on the "WLW Midwestern Hayride" show. THOMAS D. WHITE, 96, of Bloomington, Ind., formerly of Cincinnati, died Friday. He was a retired public relations worker with Indiana University, a former book reviewer with the Cincinnati Enquirer and an employee of WLW radio. Services: 2 p.m. Friday at T. P. White and Sons Funeral Home, Mount Washington . Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Blocher, amateur radio buff

Mary Ellen Owens Blocher was an innovator who learned communication skills to help others.

In 1956, Mrs. Blocher followed the lead of her husband, Harold F. Blocher, and obtained her amateur radio operator's license.

She later became a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, the Queen City Emergency Network, the Northern Kentucky Amateur Radio Club and the Greater Cincinnati Amateur Radio Association. She operated for years under the call sign K4MVB and was widely known in the tri-state amateur radio community.

Mrs. Blocher, 68, of Highland Heights, Ky., died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.

She grew up near Cincinnati and met her husband at a picnic. The Blochers were married for 48 years and shared a love for their children and grandchildren and amateur radio. Mr. Blocher said his wife enjoyed communicating with people in Greater Cincinnati.

"She spoke to people locally and in Dayton, Ohio. We would attend conventions together," Mr. Blocher said.

Survivors include sons, Harold F. Blocher II of Highland Heights, Douglas Blocher of Cold Spring, Ky., and Robert Blocher of Amelia, Ohio; a daughter, Wendy Blocher of Highland Heights; a brother, John J. Owens of Cincinnati; sisters, Ruth E. Simmons of Cincinnati and Agnes Smith of Bright, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.

Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Fri day at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation was this morning at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, Ky.

Nola Fagaly, former president of Hamilton Habitat for Humanity

Nola A. Fagaly, 63, of Ross, Ohio, died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. She was retired from Champion Paper and was former president for Hamilton Habitat for Humanity and Champion GO Girls. She also was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Shandon, Ohio; a founding member of Morgan Ross Athletic Association; and former leader for Butler County 4-H.

Survivors include daughters, Melinda Kushniroff of Southgate, Ky., and Jodi Stacey of Cincinnati; sons, Steven Fagaly of Ross, Ohio, and Douglas Fagaly of Fairfield; brothers, Ray Hesselbrock and Carl Hesselbrock, both of Okeana, Ohio; sisters, Alta Poirier of Franklin, Ohio, and Rita Vonderhaar of Camden, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
