F. Dean Thomas, owned PDQ Quick Print

F. Dean Thomas of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood, Ky. He was 62.

Mr. Thomas was a printer and owner of PDQ Quick Print Center in Cincinnati. He also was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, of 39 years, Elke Maria Kraus Thomas; sons, Michael Dean Thomas of Dayton, Ohio, and Jeffrey Alan Thomas of Florence, Ky.; brothers, Lowell Thomas of Elliston, Ky., and Harold Vernon Thomas of Flatwood, Ky.; sisters, Bonnie McGuire of Covington and Linda Rice of Dwale, Ky.; one grandson; and one step-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Church in  Taylor Mill, Ky. Visi tation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Truck driver Jesse Mullikin, served town

Jesse V. Mullikin of Elsmere, Ky., was a hard-working truck driver, a family man, an active church member - even a volunteer firefighter and part-time policeman.

"He would be the neighbor you would like to have," said his son-in-law, Michael Thomas.

Mr. Mullikin, 84, died Tuesday. He worked 31 years as a truck driver for theformer Consolidated Freight Lines in Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio, before retiring in 1977.

"He hauled just about anything. One time, it was pennies," said his son-in-law.

Mr. Mullikin was one of the city's first volunteer firefighters, serving from the 1940s-60s with the Elsmere Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked as a police officer on weekends.

He was an usher for 25 years at St. Henry Church in Elsmere, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He and his wife, Virginia Wocher Mullikin, had been married 54 years when she died in 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Ella Thomas of Elsmere, Ky., Jessica Claypool of Independence, Ky., and Yvonne Virginia Hughes of Florence, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church in Elsmere. Visitation begins there at 9 a.m. Friday. Memorials: Kidney Foundation, 2330 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206. Arrangements: Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, Ky.

John Rich Jr., decorated veteran

John Alvin Rich, Jr., a decorated and disabled Vietnam War veteran, died Tuesday at age 49.

Mr. Rich had resided at Moses House in Cincinnati since 1998 and had been treated for years for post traumatic stress disorder.

He grew up on a farm in northern Ohio near Sandusky and served in the U.S. Army from 1968 through 1971, following in the footsteps of his father, John Sr., a decorated veteran of World War II.

Rich served 13 months in combat in Vietnam and earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.

On leaving the Army, Rich traveled the nation by motorcycle for several years, then settled in St. Louis, where he worked as a machinist.

He moved to Cincinnati several years ago and enrolled at the University of Cincinnati.

"He was a good person," his father said.

"He joined the Army when he was just 16 because he wanted to be like his dad."

"John was an absolutely delightful person," said Bill Malone, director of Moses House. "Extensively tattooed, bald with a pony tail, a grin as wide as America and a personality which endeared him to everyone."

Other survivors are a sister, Alice Resta, of Sunbury, Ohio; a half-sister, Irma Llewelyn, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; a son, John, of Ashley, Ohio; daughters, Sandy Sargent, of Marr, Ohio, and Wendy, of Bellefontaine; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be in Sunbury, Ohio, but arrangements have not been completed.
