Francis J. "Franny" Lang, loved city
Francis J. "Franny" Lang loved the city where he served as a U.S. postal employee for 44 years.
He held a variety of positions with the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati, including superintendent of parcel post, superintendent of delivery and special assistant to the regional director for employee relations.
During the Kennedy Administration he was offered the position of director of delivery for the United States, but he declined so that he could stay in his beloved city, family members said.

He retired from the postal service in 1969, but continued to serve in leadership positions in his community and in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Mr. Lang was dedicated to fulfilling his commitments, both professionally and personally, his family said.
He was both vice president and director of the Price Hill Civic Club and was chosen the club's Man of the Year in 1978. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis and the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Mr. Lang's wife, Loraine, died in 1980. He leaves three daughters, Joan C. Valentine, Dr. Judith A. Schwartz and Jane F. Gibson; a son, Thomas J. Lang; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
