Vernon Hawk, record distributor
Vernon Hawk's long career in record distribution spanned more than 40 years in Cincin nati.
Mr. Hawk, 78, died Tuesday. He was a resident in recent years of the New England Club retirement facility in Anderson Township.
He is being remembered by his family as an outgoing, devoted family man who enjoyed golf and boating.
Mr. Hawk was president and general manager of the now-closed Transcontinent Records in Walnut Hills.
After graduating from Withrow High School and serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific in World War II, he worked as a salesman for Decca Records.
He later co-founded Flo-Roe Records in Cincinnati and became owner of Ambat Records, the largest wholesale one-stop record distributor in Greater Cincinnati.
After 43 years in the record business, he worked part-time in sales for the Ketterer Co., an advertising-related firm.
Mr. Hawk enjoyed boating on the Ohio River in his 28-foot cabin cruiser, "Hawk's Nest."
He also was a member of the Linwood Lodge Masons.
His wife of 52 years, Florence, died in 1995. He leaves two sons, Vernon "Skip" Hawk Jr. and Ron Hawk, both of Cincinnati; two daughters, Rita Hawk Murphy of Tualatin, Ore., and Karen Hawk Schone of Chicago, and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mount Washington .
Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MICHAEL P. MCSWIGAN, 61, a former assistant dean and mathematics professor at the Un iversity of Cincinnati who oversaw renovation of French Hall, died of cancer Saturday. Richard Ducker, made people feel special
Richard A. "Dick" Ducker, had a knack for making people feel special. As a nu rsing home volunteer he coaxed smiles from residents and staff with good-humored teasing and impromptu pizza parties, said his friend, Ethel Fahey.
Mr. Ducker died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was 94.
He was a retired shipping clerk for Gibson-Perin office supply company in Cincinnati and an Army veteran of World War II.
He and his wife, Marguerite, lived in Fort Thomas. After retirement, they moved to the Hathaway Court senior citizen apartments in West Covington, where they became neighbors with their longtime friends Ethel and Bill Fahey.
He was a member of St. Ann Church in Covington.
His health had started to fail in recent years, and a few months ago he moved to the Baptist Convalescent Center as a resident.
Survivors include a sister, Nora Ducker of West Covington.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Ann Church, Covington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Memorials are suggested to Baptist Convalescent Center, 120 Main St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

Gene Schulkers, union president
Gene Schulkers, president of the union at the Cincinnati Enquirer, died Thursday after suffering a brain aneurysm Wednesday.
Mr. Schulkers, 50, of Fort Thomas, Ky., worked in production at the Enquirer for 26 years.
At the time of his death, Mr. Schulkers was president of the Teamsters Local 1717 Mailers Union.
Union vice president Jim Ruth knew Mr. Schulkers 25 years.
"He was a leader you could depend on," Mr. Ruth said. "He was also a friend."
Today, Mr. Schulkers and his wife, Mary, would have celebrated 30 years of marriage.
"He was very outgoing. He loved people. He loved being with people," said Mrs. Schulkers.
"The minute he met you, you felt like he was your best friend."
Mr. Schulkers was active with the Teamsters Joint Council No. 26. where he was assistant to the president, recording secretary and co-chair of the group's Political Action Committee. "He was a friend and a very active labor leader," said Roger Insprucker, president of the joint council.
Survivors include a daughter, Christy Finfrock of Fort Thomas; sons, David Schulkers of Cold Spring and Daniel Schulkers of Fort Thomas; his father, Eugene Schulkers of Dayton; a sister, Lenora "Sis" Mocciola of Dayton; brothers, Ronald Schulkers of Erlanger and Irvin Schulkers of Newport; and two grandchildren, Tyler Owens and Kyle Finfrock, both of Fort Thomas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas with prayers at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Glenn Davis, owned car dealership
Glenn W. Davis, a Cincinnati man who owned Glenn Davis Auto Sales in Newport, di ed at 2 a.m. Saturday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was 75. Davis, who used to live in Northern Kentucky, also was a member of Covington F&AM No. 109.
Survivors include his wife, Alene Davis; sons, Glenn Robert Davis and Charles B. Davis, both of Villa Hills, Ky.; daughters, Joyce A. Davis of Villa Hills, and Arlene Williams of Crescent Springs, Ky.; a brother, Doug Davis of Villa Hills; sisters, Regina Cushman of Covington and Joyce Stoneback of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
