Robin Bohnert, social worker became lawyer
Robin Bohnert was a lawyer who cared.
"If clients needed help paying the rent or buying food, she would give them money out of her own pocket," said Tom Foulke of Northside.
"She was an excellent lawyer with a very good heart."
Ms. Bohnert, 52, of Price Hill, died Feb. 7 of breast cancer.
Many of Ms. Bohnert's clients were disabled people seeking Social Security benefits. While cases were pending, needy clients could count on Ms. Bohnert's personal help.
"She always helped people," said Foulke. "She made sacrifices and, in so doing, she made lots of friends."
Foulke, who is disabled, said Ms. Bohnert helped with his Social Security claim 11 years ago.
"She remained a wonderful friend through the years," he said. "I'm so glad she came into my life.
"I never met anyone like her. She was such a good person. I loved her like a sister."
Foulke said Ms. Bohnert probably had a special affinity for disabled and poor people because she was a social worker before becoming a lawyer.
"She felt frustrated as a social worker and became an attorney so she could really help people economically," said one of Ms. Bohnert's friends, Mary Jeanne Feldkamp. "She helped people survive.
"She was loving and caring and generous. She was interested in so many diverse groups of people. She also was very intelligent and hard-working.
"It's tragic that she was struck down in the prime of her life," added Ms. Feldkamp. "She battled breast cancer nearly four years. She was a real fighter to the very end."
In her personal life, Ms. Bohnert enjoyed books, music and theater.
Survivors include Ms. Bohnert's parents, Edward and Estelle Bohnert of Anacortes, Wash., and four brothers, Edward of San Francisco, Robert of Anchorage, Alaska, Kevin of Seattle and Shawn of Sydney, Australia.
There will be a memorial service for her at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Unitarian Church in Clifton.
