Luther Risner, managed Big Bone Lick
Luther Risner, of Verona, Ky., a former park manager who took Big Bone Lick State Park from a picnic area to what it is today, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was 91.
Mr. Risner had retired as an expediter from Avco Financial Services and was farming when he was asked to be a manager for the Boone County park. When he started working there, there were just a few picnic tables, said his daughter, Lucille Maddox of Verona.
But her father took charge and was responsible for construction of the new office building, a swimming pool and campground. He also helped gain funding to buy surrounding acreage to expand the park.
"He didn't mind going to Frankfort and saying 'I need such and such,' " Ms. Maddox said.
Mr. Risner was also a Kentucky State Police officer in Hazard before moving to Boone County.
Other survivors include a son, J. D. Risner of Verona; daughter, Edna Mae "Tag" Pearson of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Virginia Vest and Mattie Arnett, both of Verona; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45203.

Jack Clos, teacher, principal, tennis player
Jack E. Clos, 75, a retired school teacher and administrator who was a lifelong resident of Price Hill, Covedale and Delhi Hills, died Saturday.
Mr. Clos was an elementary teacher and administrator in Cincinnati Public Schools for 30 years. He retired in 1978. He taught at Carson School, was assistant principal at Whittier School and was principal of Highlands School, Winton Place School and Central Fairmount School.
He was a veteran of World War II in Europe. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Eame Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars and the Good Conduct Ribbon Victory Medal.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati.
Mr. Clos was an avid tennis enthusiast, playing for 60 years. He taught tennis for the Cincinnati Recreation Commission. He and his wife, Barbara, who survives him, won many mixed doubles championships.
He also was tennis director at Western Racquet Club and West Side Racquet Club for more than 15 years. He also sold real estate for several years for Ellerman Realty.
Mr. Clos also was a member of the community advisory board for Wesley Hall Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Road. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Wesley Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Westminster Presbyterian church.
