Lanni Johnston Brengel, actress, publicist
Lanni Johnston Brengel knew how to make an entrance. Her throaty voice and flair for the dramatic served her well throughout her long careers as an actress, entrepreneur and publicist.
Her life also was marked by kindness, friends say. Long before she took up residence at Scarlet Oaks Retirement Community in Clifton, Mrs. Brengel volunteered there, driving residents to beauty appointments, doctors and stores.

She earlier had spent summers as publicist for the Cherry County Playhouse in Traverse City, Mich., where she also had a television show. She continued acting well into her 80s, including a role in the Hallmark special "Charlie's Christmas Secret."
Mrs. Brengel was an avid traveler and a member of Actors Equity and the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists. She was executive secretary of the Women's City Club for a decade.
Her first husband, John Johnston, died in 1961 and her second, George Brengel, in 1983. Her son, Peter Anthony Johnston, died in 1966.
