Joseph Schoenfeld, school coach

Joseph Schoenfeld, 78, of Western Hills, a long-time baseball coach at St. Teresa Grade School and the father of Elder High School baseball coach Joe Schoenfeld, died Wednesday.

Mr. Schoenfeld was born, reared and lived in Western Hills all his life.

He graduated from Elder High School in 1940 and in later years was a very active member of Elder's Dads Club.

Mr. Schoenfeld, who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, worked more than 30 years for Ford Motor Co. and retired in 1980.

Besides helping grade school students at St. Teresa learn how to play baseball, Mr. Schoenfeld was an avid golfer and helped organize the Senior Golf League in Western Hills.

Survivors include sons Joe and Jim Schoenfeld and daughters Nancy Thorsen, Mary Beth Duebber and Kathy Davis, and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Meyer & Geiser Funeral Home, 4989 Glenway Ave.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1175 Overlook Ave., Price Hill.

Stull brothers spent lives together

Brothers Robert "Ike" Stull and William "Mike" Stull of Northern Kentucky died about 4 1/2 hours apart Sunday after a lifetime of hanging out together.

"They were really buddies," said their sister, Edna Stull Evans, of Elsmere. "They were a year and two weeks apart and they looked a lot alike, almost like twins."

The boys reminded their dad of a pair of mischievous youngsters in a comic strip by the names of Mike and Ike. The brothers got the nicknames when they were about 3 and 4 and the monikers stuck.

Their friendship lasted until they died. Until recently, Robert would pick up William to go shopping or to go to a doctor's appointment, their sister said.

William E. "Mike" Stull, 83, of Bellevue, died at 4 p.m. at his home. Robert E. "Ike" Stull, 82, of Dayton, died at 8:35 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Robert Stull had driven cabs for Roland Cab Co., Yellow Cab Co. and Deluxe Cab Co. of Newport and Covington.

William Stull had been a bartender at Westside Cafe and Pompilio's Restaurant. His first wife, Alice Stull, died in 1979.

Mrs. Evans was Robert Stull's only survivor.

William Stull's survivors include his wife, Elsie Jane Duve Stull; a son, Ronald Stull of Covington; a daughter, Charlotte Kells of Williamstown; stepdaughters, Alice Ballard of  Taylor Mill, Pauline Adair of Burlington and Peggy Conn of Lebanon, Ohio; stepsons, Bill Bacher of Norwood, Ohio, and Ray Bacher of Highland Heights; his sister, Mrs. Evans of Elsmere; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren.

Services for both men will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Robert Stull's burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. William Stull's burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

T.H. Janszen, businessman

Thomas H. Janszen, 61, of Western Hills, chairman of the board of Amity Unlimited Inc. and a community leader, died Monday after a three-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Janszen was past president of the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, past board chairman of WCET-TV and founding board chairman of Boys Hope of Cincinnati.

At the age of 55, he capped a life-long interest in cooking by enrolling in Cincinnati State's culinary arts program. He graduated magna cum laude, became a chef and won the 1999 Presidents Award of the American Culinary Association's Greater Cincinnati chapter.

"He was a very uncommon man," said Mr. Janszen's son, August. "He was certainly a leader. He would take hold of something and was driven to succeed.

"He always wanted to see the best brought out in people. He wanted them to meet or exceed their potential."

For 38 years, Mr. Janszen directed a family business, Amity Unlimited, a marketing and direct mail company.

One of Mr. Janszen's favorite organizations was Boys Hope, which helps boys in troubled family situations.

Other survivors include Mr. Janszen's wife, Anne; sons Timothy and Jay; daughter Sheri Massa; 11 grandchildren; his father, Wilbur; and brothers, Robert and Wilbur.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Philippus United Church of Christ, 106 W. McMicken Ave.

The Hodapp Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Hamilton County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 3949 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45223 or the Culinary Olympics, c/o Western Hills Country Club, 5780 Cleves Warsaw Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45233.

Roger Ruwe, former Post director

Roger Ruwe, former circulation director for The Cincinnati Post, died June 29 in Creve Coeur, Mo. He was 62.

Ruwe, raised in Deer Park, started working for The Post at age 10 selling newspapers.

He left Cincinnati to become circulation director for the Sarasota Herald Tribune in Florida, but returned in 1968 to head circulation for The Post. In 1978, he joined the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as circulation director and retired there in 1994.

Ruwe's interests also included golf, baseball and travel.

"He was great with my sons when they were younger," said Cheryl Ross of Glen Este, Ruwe's sister. "He used to hold up paper money and if the boys could guess who was on the front, he would give it to them. He had to stop playing the game when they got too smart and he started to lose money."

He also is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Ruwe of Creve Coeur; his parents, Cherry and Harold Ruwe of Deer Park, and seven nieces and five nephews. Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Foundation.

Visitation and services were held July 3 in St. Louis. The Bellerive Forever Cemetery in St. Louis handled arrangements.

GRACE BELL CUNNINGHAM, 83, of Cincinnati, died July 7. Ms. Cunningham was a homemaker. Services: Noon today at Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home, 2625 Gilbert Ave., Walnut Hills. Visitation: 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
