Edwin Monroe, active in Pendleton County
Edwin A. Monroe Jr., an attorney in Pendleton County, Ky., for 41 years and a master commissioner for the county, died Sunday. He was 71.
Mr. Monroe also served as attorney for the city of Falmouth and county attorney for Pendleton. In addition, he chaired the board of directors for the United Kentucky Bank in Falmouth.
His wife, Julia, said her husband served on many civic boards because he enjoyed community work.
"He was a people person. He was outgoing," she said.
Mr. Monroe was a former member of the Pendleton County Farm Bureau board of directors and a member of the Pendleton County Beef Association, Pendleton County VFW Post No. 109, the Pendleton County Country Club and Orion Lodge No. 222 F&AM.
He earned his law degree from the University of Kentucky Law School and returned home to Pendleton County to open a private practice. He also enjoyed farming and owned an Angus cattle farm in his hometown.
Other survivors include a son, Edwin A. "Alex" Monroe III of Falmouth; and a brother, Theodore F. Monroe of Vero Beach, Fla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Baptist Church, 403 Maple St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Sam Roberts, ran feed store in Hebron
Back in the days when Hebron, Ky., was strictly a farming community, Roberts Feed and Implement Store was the center of activity. And Sam E. Roberts was the man who made it happen - with, of course, the assistance of his wife, Bessie.
"We operated it from 1945 to 1974," recalls Mrs. Roberts of the former store on Ky. 20 in Hebron. "We sold tractors and machinery for the farm, and sold feed. We also sold hats and riding boots, saddles and bridles and veterinary medicines...anything the farmer needed."
Mr. Roberts, 92, of Hebron, died Monday evening at the Florence Park Care Center in Florence, Ky.
Mrs. Roberts said her husband was the oldest and longest member of the Hebron Lions Club where he enjoyed helping the underprivileged and sight-impaired for 45 years. He also was a retired deacon at Bullittsville Christian Church, Burlington.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Elaine R. Dwyer of Atlanta, Ga., and Peggy R. Thompson of Hebron; a sister, Cordelia Roberts Moehring of Hebron; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Robert Fey, co-owned family supermarket
Robert P. Fey, former owner of Fey's Supermarket in South Cumminsville, died Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn. He was 87.
He, along with his mother, father and brother Irvin, owned and operated Fey's Supermarket at the corner of Powers and Borden streets for more than 50 years.
The store was started by Peter and Sophie Fey in 1904 and was operated for more than 70 years by three generations of Feys.
The Feys sold the store, which is still in operation, in 1975.
Mr. Fey leaves two daughters, Peggy Kostelnik of Greenleaf, Wis., and Doris Schmaltz of White Bear Lake, Minn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Swegman Fey.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral home, 5527 Cheviot Road, near North Bend Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church of the Little Flower, Mt. Airy. Memorials may be made to St. Therese Church.
