Lillian Martin, music and piano teacher
Throughout her long life, Lillian C. Martin helped hundreds of children learn how to play the piano.
Miss Martin taught music for more than 20 years for Cincinnati Public Schools.
She also spent more than 50 years giving private piano lessons to children in Greater Cincinnati.
"She loved children, and every child in her family was her baby," said a niece, Norma Beiry of Fort Mitchell. "She taught everyone in our family how to play the piano the minute they could reach the key board."
Miss Martin, 91, of Latonia, Ky., died Saturday.
Miss Martin is also survived by her sister, May Baker of Fort Wright.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Covington. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Daniel Vogel,
Cincinnati fire chief from 1957-66
Daniel "Dan" Vogel, who served as Cincinnati fire chief from 1957 until he retired in 1966, died Monday.
Mr. Vogel, of Miami Heights, was 89.
Encouraged by an uncle, Mr. Vogel joined the fire division in 1933 after serving with the U.S. Navy. He rose through the ranks and was appointed assistant chief in 1951 at age 42, one of the youngest assistant chiefs in the city's history.
Six years later he succeeded Barney Houston, who'd been chief since 1916.
"He just liked what he was doing. He liked helping people," said his son, Dan Vogel Jr. of Cleves.
Mr. Vogel advocated smoke detectors for homes, pushed for higher budgets for the department and "was devoted to getting the most updated equipment," his son recalled.
The senior Vogel also helped set up a fire training facility and helped establish the Cincinnati Fire Museum. He served as president of the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association.
During his career he was a consultant to other fire deparments and insurance organizations and was a member of Cheviot Lodge 140 Masons.
Mr. Vogel and his wife, Rose, raised five children in Westwood.
"He really taught us good things," his son said.
Mr. Vogel, in an interview with The Post in 1951, praised his wife in helping raise his family. "My job keeps me away from home a lot," he said."If it weren't for my wonderful wife, I don't know how we'd manage."
Other survivors include a son, David A. Vogel; daughters, Carolyn R. Williams, Elaine Fischer and Jeanne L. Cable; 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Services were private. The Gump-Holt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William F. Brewe
worked in county courts
William F. Brewe, South Fairmont, who worked for 46 years in Hamilton County administration and courts, died Tuesday. He was 96.
Mr. Brewe served as chief deputy jury commissioner, as bailiff for the late Judges George Kearns and Ralph Kohnen, and as a mortgage cancelation clerk. He also was chairman of Republican Ward 21 for 44 years.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Schmitt Brewe; and a son, William H. Brewe of South Fairmont.

Ruth Douglas, teacher
Throughout her 49-year teaching career, Ruth Natalie Clarke Douglas commanded her classroom with a firm but gentle touch and instilled strong values in students.
The Madisonville resident died Sunday. She was 89.
Before retiring in 1981, Mrs. Douglas taught at Dyer and Rockdale elementary schools in Cincinnati. She was known for demanding that her students behave, complete their studies and carry themselves with dignity.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Wadsworth Clarke Douglas of Cincinnati.

Rev. Edwin Heile, former Latin headmaster
The Rev. Edwin Bernard Heile, a former headmaster at Covington Latin School, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, at age 64.
Known as "Big Ed" because of his stature and booming voice, Father Heile was known for his strong opinions and compassion, said a colleague and former student, the Rev. James Ryan of Elsmere.
Father Heile was a man of many talents for the Diocese of Covington. He worked at the Latin School from 1960 to 1983, and ran the athletic department before becoming headmaster. He later became pastor at two churches - St. Patrick's in Taylor Mill and All Saints Church in Walton.
Father Heile grew up in Fort Mitchell. The son of a banker, he learned how to be fiscally responsible while running schools and churches.
Father Heile enjoyed camping and was an authority on baseball and football, Father Ryan said.
Father Heile is survived by an aunt, Mary Elizabeth Heile, and an uncle, Ralph Heile, both of Fort Mitchell; and several cousins.
Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
