Tony Maier, owner of Maier Aviation

Tony Maier, who owned Maier Aviation at Lunken Airport for more than 30 years, died July 11 at age 87. He had lived for many years in Price Hill.

As a young man in the 1930s, he worked as a race horse trainer in Cuba. When he returned to Cincinnati in the late 30s, he opened Tony's Cafe. He was active in sports and sponsored Tony's Cafe baseball teams at Dempsey Park for many years.

In the 1950s, he opened Maier Aviation and operated it until the 1980s, when he retired. In 1964, along with his son, Gene, he established United Signs, Inc. and was active in the business until the death of his son. In 1999, Tony, along with his four grandsons, started Maier Signs, Inc.

Survivors are four grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1175 Overlook Ave., Covedale. No visitation. Arrangements: B.J. Meyer Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: St. Teresa of Avila Memorial Fund, 1175 Overlook Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45238.

Sister Ann Patrick Lynch, 71, educator

Sister of Charity Ann Patrick Lynch was a woman who put her faith into action through teaching.

Sister Ann Patrick died Monday in the Mother Margaret Hall nursing home. She was 71.

"Sister Ann Patrick was a woman of great faith," said her longtime friend, Sister Timothy Ann Schroeder. "She was able to inspire other people to be joyful, and that sprang from her deep faith."

A longtime Price Hill resident, Sister Ann Patrick was an elementary school teacher before entering the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati in 1960. She taught at Resurrection of Our Lord School in Price Hill in the 1950s.

After earning her undergraduate degree in 1963, she taught for five years in Michigan. She returned to Price Hill, where she was a teacher and principal at St. Lawrence School (1968-70 and 1977-82) and a teacher and counselor at Holy Family School (1970-77).

She received a master's in education from Xavier University in 1972.

After nearly 30 years in education, she accepted the position of director of sisters' services at the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse in 1982. For the next 16 years, she was events coordinator, funeral director, entertainment planner, writer, reservationist and much more for the nuns who live in the Motherhouse.

Sister Ann Patrick is survived by a brother, James Lynch of Price Hill, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 6:15 p.m. today in the Cedars Auditorium at the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse, Delhi Township. Mass will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sister Ann Patrick's name to the Sisters of Charity Retirement Fund, 5900 Delhi Road, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio 45051.

IZELLA ELIZABETH (HOWARD) KENDRICK, 83, of Avondale, died July 26. Ms. Kendrick was the director of Social Services at Catherine Booth Memorial Home. MARGARETTA "MARGE" NEU, 65, of Hamersville, died Thursday. She was a physical therapy technician with Brown County General Hospital and was a founding member of the Hamersvil le Life Squad. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kennedy-Stevens Funeral Home, Bethel. Visitation: Noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hamersville Life Squad.

ELZIE P. YOUNG JR., 66, of Forest Park, died Sunday. He was a golf caddie and a veteran of the Korean War. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, Lockland. Visitation is 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home, Walnut Hills, is handling the arrangements.

Frank Stark, woodworker, walker, church elder

Frank E. Stark of Covington was a machinist who loved the outdoors and was devoted to his church.

Mr. Stark worked about 26 years for the Precision Tool Co. in Cincinnati. After he retired in 1976, he worked part-time for the C&C Machine Co. in Covington and had more time to pursue his hobbies, which included walking and woodworking.

"He had a woodworking shop of his own," said his wife, Edith Stark. "He made different things like foot stools, baskets and picture frames."

Mr. Stark also volunteered as a woodworking teacher with the Kenton County Boys and Girls Club.

Mr. Stark was born and reared in Chetopa, Kan. He was a member of Fort Thomas American Legion Post No. 200.

He also served as an elder, a deacon and a Sunday school teacher with Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington.

"He was very fond of his church," said Mrs. Stark. "His faith was very important to him."

Mr. Stark died early Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. He was 88.

"He was very outgoing. He never saw a stranger," said his wife of 63 years.

"He loved the outdoors. He did all our yard work. He loved the little birds and squirrels, and he would feed them all.

"He used to love to walk. When he was still able to walk, he would take a sack with him and pick up pop cans and potato chip bags.

"He'd fill up our trash can and tell me, 'Well, as long as I'm walking, I might as wel l do it.' He didn't like to see the trash."

A daughter, Sandra Stark, preceded him in death in 1985.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stark is survived by a brother, Robert C. Stark of Craig, Colo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Covington.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Marjorie B. Reese, 77, homemaker devoted to family

Marjorie B. Reese was a quiet woman who wasn't afraid to learn new things.

After dedicating much of her life to her husband, children and grandchildren, Mrs. Reese, a native of Augusta, found time in recent years to pursue her own interests.

"About three or four years ago, she got a computer and learned how to surf the 'Net," said Mrs. Reese's daughter, Mary Beth Reeves of Augusta.

"She always wanted to try new things."

Mrs. Reese, 77, of Augusta, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church in Augusta and the Augusta Art Guild. Her husband, Albert Reese, died in 1998.

Mrs. Reese spent most of her life in the house where she was born. She raised her children and grandchildren there.

Computers weren't her only new interest later in life. She had several relatives who are artists, and she took up painting last summer.

"She wanted to draw and paint," Mrs. Reeves said. "She did a few small things."

Mrs. Reese was close to her grandchildren and one granddaughter left her job to be closer to Mrs. Reese when she learned that her grandmother was ill, Mrs. Reeves said.

"She was a very quiet person who was devoted to her family," Mrs. Reeves said of her mother. "She also had numerous friends in town."

Other survivors include a son, Brad Reese of Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Augustine Church Building Fund, 215 E. Fourth St., Augusta, Ky. 41002; or Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
