Paul Beiting Sr., carpenter, baseball player
Paul Beiting Sr. devoted much of his life to baseball, and though he was a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan, he directed most of his energy toward rooting for whatever Knothole team one of his 15 grandchildren was pla ying on.
Mr. Beiting, 71, died Sunday. Born in Cold Spring, the union carpenter had lived in Bellevue for more than 30 years.
Mr. Beiting was a star pitcher for Newport Catholic High School and later played semi-pro, said his daughter, Karen Roderick of Dayton.
He was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and into the Knothole Baseball Hall of Fame. He coached in the youth league for 18 years.
He was a
Korean War Army veteran.
In addition to his daughter, Mr. Beiting is survived by his wife, Doris Enzweiler Beiting of Bellevue; son, Paul J. Beiting Jr. of Bellevue; daughters Peggy Birkenhauer of Fort Thomas, Mary Sheanshang of Alexandr ia and Beth Kinnett of Cold Spring; brothers, Msgr. Ralph Beiting of Louisa, Don Beiting of Cold Spring, Jim Beiting of Silver Grove, Butch Beiting of Fort Thomas and Jerry Beiting of Pendleton County; sisters, Ann Schadle of Highland H eights, Sr. Mary Martha S.N.D., of Fort Wright and Mary Lou Deavy of Fort Thomas; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchil d.

Frances Willard, nursing supervisor for city
Frances Ann Wilson Willard cared about helping people, especially those in need.
The Bond Hill resident, a nursing supervisor for the city of Cincinnati Health Department where she worked for over 40 years, died Sunday of colon cancer.
She retired as nursing supervisor of the Health Department's Northside Clinic.
Active in her church, she combined her love for religion and her love for cooking by helping out at parish meals.
She is survived by her husband, Wilson Willard; a daughter, Miriam McKenney; and sons, Wilson III and David; two grandchildren; and a sister, Boots W. Jones.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1809 Rutland Ave. Services are 1 p.m. at the church.Arrangements by Renfro & Piper Funeral Services.

John Wessels, business owner
John R. Wessels had a successful electrical contracting business for 40 years.
The Covedale resident died Sunday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital-Western Hills. He was 76.
Mr. Wessels served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in World War II. Afterward, he began his career as an electrical contractor, starting Wessels Electrical in Price Hill. He retired after 40 years; his son, Jerry, continues the business on Elberon Avenue.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jean Phillips Wessels; a daughter, Jacalyn Kenneweg; two sons, Jerry and Jay Wessels; a grandson, Jeffrey Kenneweg; a sister, Margaret Kreinest; and two brothers, Paul and W illiam Wessels, all of Cincinnati.

Karen Carns, teacher, scholarship founder
Karen R. Maschmeyer Carns was a teacher who founded a scholarship fund and a program to provide winter coats to needy children.
"She exuded love. She was selfless," said Mrs. Carns' mother, Marjorie Maschmeyer of Ludlow, Ky. "She was the most loving, outgoing, joyful, giving person."
Diagnosed with leukemia 14 months ago, Mrs. Carns, 38, died Sunday at her home in Amelia.
With her husband, Thomas Carns Jr., she founded the St. Bernadette Scholarship Fund, which has raised more than $70,000 for children to continue with a Catholic education. The couple also started the Carns Co ats for Kids program, which provided winter coats for children who needed them.
Other survivors include a son, Tommy Carns, at home; daughters, Christy Carns, Katie Carns and Kelly Carns, all at home; sisters, Peggy Keen of Louisville, Nancy Steenken of Covington, Susan Ankenjauer of Newpor t and Connie Rechel of Cincinnati.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bellarmine Chapel, Xavier University, Cincinnati. A reception will follow in the school's Cintas Center.

Harry P. Weber, 87, veteran, businessman
Harry P. Weber of Green Township was a World War II veteran and a businessman who taught his family a thing or two about hard work and commitment.
After a tornado destroyed the family home in April 1974, and a fire devastated his business in Cincinnati the following year, Mr. Weber set an example of how to persevere, said a son, Pat Weber of Delhi Township.
It was a lesson that would stand the younger Weber in good stead when, the very day of his father's death, a fire set off by a lightning strike damaged Pat Weber's family home in Cincinnati.
"He taught us lessons in overcoming adversity as well," Pat Weber said.
Harry Weber, an avid boater, died Sunday morning at his summer cottage on Crooked Lake in Oden, Mich. He was 87.
During World War II, Mr. Weber was a technical sergeant meteorologist with the Army Air Corps. When Mr. Weber left the service, he returned to Cincinnati and joined his father at the Harry B. Weber Co. Restaurant Equipment and Supplies in Cincinnati.
The business had customers throughout the Tri-State, including Frisch's Big Boy Restaurants and Skyline Chili.
Mr. Weber also designed restaurant kitchens, including the Holiday Inn Riverfront in Covington.
Mr. Weber and his wife, Peggy Weber, were married 55 years.
Besides his wife and son, Mr. Weber is survived by sons Mike Weber and Corky Weber, both of Anderson Township, and Chris Weber of Glendale; a daughter, Jenny Kovacs of Delhi Township; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Laura Wick of San Bernardino, Calif.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Neidhard-Minges Funeral Home in Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Visitation Church in Cincinnati.
