Karin L. Neiheisel-Lewis, started own firm
Karin L. Neiheisel-Lewis, 48, founder and owner of Diagnostic Imaging Services, died Thursday at Christ Hospital of pancreatic cancer.
A long-time resident of Green Township, Ms. Neiheisel-Lewis worked in nuclear medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Ky., before starting her own company in 1989. Diagnostic Imaging Services provided supplemental radiology staff to area hospitals and physician offices.
"Karin had no children or spouse, so this business was what she breathed. It was her night and day," said Tracy Huth, business associate and friend. "Karin was very fair in her business and very unselfish, somebody who considered her own wants last.
"Her plan is for the business to continue," Huth said.
She is survived by her father, Charles J. Neiheisel, and two brothers, Mark and Dean Neiheisel. Her mother, Salle Donnelly Neiheisel, died in 1998, and her brother, Terry L. Neiheisel, died last November.
Visitation is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. today at Miller-Simminger Funeral Home, 3330 Parkcrest Lane be tween Glenway and Schwartze avenues in Western Hills.
Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Church in Bridgetown, followed by burial at St. Joseph (Old) Cemetery, West Eighth and Seton Avenue in Price Hill.

Edith W. Lamkin, loved children
Edith Wyatt Lamkin, former teacher and owner of Lamkin's Furniture Store, died Monday at the Swiss Villa Living Center, Vevay, Ind. She was 93.
Mrs. Lamkin, a long-time resident of Vevay, was known for her neighborliness and her love of children. She and her late husband, Paul Lamkin, opened their home to community residents and often took neighbor children on trips.
A graduate of the Trimble County, Ky., high school, Mrs. Lamkin taught school for a time in a one-room schoolhouse in Trimble County. She loved to tell how she rode her horse to school.
She and her husband operated Red's Package Store, the local soda fountain in Vevay, for many years. Later they owned and operated Lamkin's Furniture Store in Vevay until 1975.
Mrs. Lamkin was an avid gardener, a 55-year member of the Vevay American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a 38-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of the Switzerland Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and a longtime member of the Vevay United Methodist Church. She leaves several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Blankenship, machinist
Kenneth "Doug" Blankenship, of Sun City, Calif., died Monday in Wildomar, Calif .
Mr. Blankenship, 77, was a machinist with the Bently Nevada Corp. and Long Beach Naval Ship Yard and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He received the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon during his service in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Blankenship, formerly of Cincinnati; two daughters Olive Herzberg of Lomita, Calif., and Carol Ligier of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Richard Leming of Rockport, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services are Feb. 22 at Miller- Jones Mortuary in Sun City.

Alfreda Scaggs, long-time obstetrics nurse
Alfreda Scaggs helped deliver all seven of her grandchildren - as well as countless other babies in Northern Kentucky.
Mrs. Scaggs was a labor and delivery nurse at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas, Ky., when the facility originally opened. Earlier in her career, she was an obstetrics nurse at Speers Hospital in Dayton, Ky., and at Booth Hospital in Covington.
"She loved it," said her son-in-law, Joe Kohsin of Warsaw. "She talked a lot about it. She had some really good things to tell and some really sad stories about babies who didn't make it."
Mrs. Scaggs, 88, of Erlanger, Ky., formerly of Bellevue, died Wednesday.
She spent the last 22 years of her career working in the obstetrics and gynocology practice of Drs. Giglia, O'Connor and Gunn in Fort Thomas.
Survivors: a daughter, Doretha Kohsin of Warsaw; a son, James Clifford Scaggs of Burlington; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
