Pauline Marty founded Lads 'n Lassies school
Pauline Griffith Marty, known affectionately as 'Aunt Polly' to hundreds of parents and students who attended the Lads 'n Lassies nursery school that she founded in Wyoming, died Monday. She was 88.
Born on a farm in Delaware, Ohio, she and Theodore S. Marty Sr. married and moved to Glendale where he was a coach and teacher at the University School, and she taught nursery school at the Lotspeich School.
The family later moved to Wyoming where Mrs. Marty was active in the community, serving as president of the Wyoming Women's Club, the Wyoming Garden Club and as a church circle leader at Wyoming Presbyterian Church. She and her husband were camp directors of Boothbay Camp in Bath, Maine, where she was known as "Mrs. M" to many Cincinnati campers.
In 1957, she founded Lads 'n Lassies, which is still operating.
The Martys had been married 55 years at the time of his death in 1987.
Survivors include sons Theodore S. Marty Jr. and Terry G. Marty, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Private family services have been held.
Memorials may be made to the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, Burns and Wyoming avenues; the Future Fund at Maple Knoll Village, 11100 Springfield Avenue; or Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road.

Realtor Jack Castleberry loved history, literature
John Porter "Jack" Castleberry Jr. would have made a good college professor. Instead, he made a living as a real estate investor, but he never lost his love of history and literature.
Mr. Castleberry, of Hyde Park, died Tuesday at University Hospital. He was 71.
"He was a smart man," said his son, John Porter Castleberry III. "He was a voracious reader. He loved history."
Mr. Castleberry excelled both academically and athletically at Cincinnati Country Day School, where he was a football running back and a track star. He attended Yale University and was graduated in 1955 from the University of Cincinnati Law School.
He was president of the family business, Cedar Hill Farms, a dairy operation, before selling it in the 1960s, his son said. He also was president of Radec Realty Co., a real estate investment company.
"He had a pretty keen sense of business," his son said.
Mr. Castleberry also wrote numerous short stories and was working on a book.
Besides his son, other survivors include three daughters, Catherine Anne Coyle and Constance Clark Castleberry, both of Cincinnati, and Caroline Jane Giacobbe of Severna Park, Md.; a brother, Edward F. Castleberry of Cincinnati; a sister, Constance C. Sullivan of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elden A. Good Funeral Home, 2620 Erie Ave., Hyde Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
