Annetta Hoge, led charities, Cub Scouts
Annetta Schmudde Hoge devoted much of her life to the strengthening of families - both her own and those in the inner city.
Mrs. Hoge, formerly of Walnut Hills and Mount Lookout, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital. She was 80.
In the late 1950s, as president of the Cincinnati Council of Church Women, she raised money for the Memorial Community Center in Over-the-Rhine. The council, which aided poor families, built a $350,000 child care center at Liberty and Mansfield streets during her tenure as president.
"She had her share of frustrations, but ultimately was successful in getting the project done," said her son, Robert Hoge. "She found it very challenging."
Mrs. Hoge also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Douglas, who survives. The couple visited the Philippines, Thailand, India, Turkey and Europe when Mr. Hoge was president of the International Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Later, Mrs. Hoge became active in Cub Scouting, serving as a den mother for her sons. She took great pride in two of her grandchildren becoming Eagle Scouts, her son said.
"She kept being a den mother all her life," he said. "She always had projects for the family to work on."
Other survivors include a son, Richard Hoge of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.
Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3400 Michigan Ave., Hyde Park, where she was a member, with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Walnut Hills High School Alumni Foundation, 3250 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207.
