Julie Wever, 37, fought long battle with cancer
Julie Wever never met a stranger — particularly after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer five years ago.
She saw her trips to the doctor every Monday "as her social outing," said her husband, Joe, former art director at The Post.
Chemotherapy treatments were spent in a large common room visiting with other patients. She made so many craft gifts for the medical staff who helped with her sessions that they began calling her "the bead girl."
"She never let the cancer change her," said Joe Wever. "She always remembered the small things. She made so many friends."
Mrs. Wever died Friday at her home. She was 37.
Mrs. Wever tried various types of treatment, including bone marrow transplants, surgery, and targeted radiation after tumors spread to her brain.
"She was taking treatments as recently as two weeks ago," her husband said. "She never wanted to be told there wasn't something that could be done."
Mrs. Wever was a sales clerk at Jones the Florist in Cincinnati. "The people there were a second family to her," Joe Wever said. "Flowers and gardening were really important to her."
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Brandon Wever of Alexandria, Ky.; a daughter, Brittany Wever of Alexandria; her parents, Thelma and Carl H. Kuntz of Southgate, Ky.; and brothers, Karl Kuntz of Columbus, Ohio, and Kim J. Kuntz of Edgewood, Ky.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Memorials are suggested to the Julie Ann Wever Children Education Fund, c/o Dobbling Funeral Home, 106 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
