Edwin Ellis Yelton, 82, gas station owner
It is no coincidence that a tiny unincorporated town along U.S. 27 a bit south of Grants Lick, Ky., is known as Fairlane.
Edwin Ellis Yelton, who operated the gas station/grocery store there for nearly 40 years, drove a light blue 1961 Ford Fairlane.
Mr. Yelton, of Grants Lick, died Monday. He was 83.
He owned Yelton's Friendly Service from the late 1940s until 1980, back in the days when U.S. 27 was the equivalent of Interstate 71/75 today, said his son, Mark Yelton.
And the name of the store was no coincidence either.
"Customer service was ground into my sister and me," said Mr. Yelton's son. "It was — trust me — not just a capitalistic enterprise. That store was kind of a community hub, so to speak."
The store was open 13 hours a day every day of the year except Christmas and half a day Thanksgiving.
Other survivors include his wife, Willavene Yelton; daughter, Cheryl Sue Biddle of Alexandria; sister, Nancy Fardo of California, Ky.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation starts there at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Mount Moriah Christian Church, 314 Ky. Highway 17 North, Butler, Ky. 41006.

Makena Comisar, link to Russian ruler
Services are today for Makena "Kenzie' Comisar, 17, of Hyde Park, who died Thursday in an auto accident.
Ms. Comisar was a descendant of Czar Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia, and she was part of the family which owns Cincinnati's only five-star restaurant, the Maisonette
Her connection to Russia's ruling class is through her mother, Her Serene Highness Paula Maria Pavlov, Princess Romanovskaya-Ilyinskaya.
Her father, Marc Comisar, is part of the family that owns the Maisonette restaurant.
She would have been a senior at St. Ursula Academy in East Walnut Hills this fall, said Principal Frances Romweber.
She had a kind wit and a clever sense of humor. "It was always creative and of good will," Romweber said.
Faculty and friends will miss her vivacious nature.
"She brought a lot of energy and a zest — as the French would say, a joie de vivre — into everything that was very endearing," Romweber said.
Ms. Comisar died when the 1993 Jeep Cherokee she was driving ran off Loveland Miamiville Road in Clermont County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
She was northbound at 7:13 p.m. when the car ran of the right side of the road. The car re-entered the road and continued back off the left side of the road, striking a ditch and pole before overturning.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, Marc and Paula Comisar, are a brother, Alexander Lee Comisar; and grandparents Lee and Joan Comisar of Indian Hill and Angelica and Paul Ilyinsky of Palm Beach, Fla.
The funeral is 11 a.m. today at Unity Center of Cincinnati, 1401 E. McMillan St. in East Walnut Hills.
Memorials may be directed to the Kenzie Comisar Fund, c/o The Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
