Nancy Drysdale, director of Playhouse, at 71

Nancy Allensworth Drysdale, a former director of Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park, died Wednesday of cancer. She was 71.
A native of Gallensburg, Ill., Mrs. Drysdale moved to Cincinnati in the early 1960s. She was a board member for the Contemporary Arts Center, and later its president and chairwoman. In addition to serving as Playhouse in the Park's director, she also founded its volunteer organization, the Playhouse Prompters, and was named 1968's "Woman of the Year" by the Cincinnati Enquirer for her contributions to the arts.

In 1976, Mrs. Drysdale moved to Washington, D.C., and the following year she opened the Nancy Drysdale Gallery, establishing herself as one of the city's leading dealers of contemporary art. Among her discoveries were Scott Burton, Bill Christianberry, Sam Gilliam, Jim Sanborn and Lisa Scheer. The gallery closed in 1997 and Mrs. Drysdale retired to Charlottesville, Va.

She was a graduate of Northwestern University.

Mrs. Drysdale is survived by her husband of 25 years, Douglas Drysdale; three daughters, Margaret Beeke, Mary Douglas Drysdale and Amy McIntosh; two grandchildren; a sister, Sara Allensworth; and two brothers, David Allensworth and Robert Allensworth.

A memorial service will be held at noon Fridayat the Thomas  Jefferson Memorial Unitarian-Universalist Church in Charlottesville, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cradle adoption agency, 2049 Ridge Ave., Evanston, Ill., 60601, or to the University of Virginia Art Museum, P.O. Box 400119, 155 Rugby Road, Charlottesville, Va., 22904.

Arthur Kuhn, 102, owned four tool-making factories
Arthur Kuhn, who once owned four tool-making factories, died Saturday at 102.

Mr. Kuhn went to work making patterns for tools when he was 16. He worked until he was 92.

In an article about his 100th birthday, he said he didn't smoke, only had an occasional drink, and didn't eat too much. Even at 100, he exercised every day.

Mr. Kuhn said he never made much money at his business, even though his factories employed 500 people at one point.

He became well off investing in the stock market, however, and later anonymously paid college tuition for several caddies at the Kenwood County Club. He was also a benefactor to organizations including the Shriners.

He married at 41, and he and his wife, Elizabeth, were married 58 years. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol, who died of cancer at age 29.

Two nephews and a niece and several great nieces and nephews survive him.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at the Cedars of Lebanon Chapel, Spring Grove Cemetery.

Elden A. Good Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice or Episcopal Retirement Homes Inc.
