Survived by loving wife of 33 years, Betty Darling; children, Velda (Charles) Otey, David (Norma) Boyer, Rowena (Barrya) Coleman and Della (Daryl) Walker; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Waller and Jacqulyn Washington ; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Broadus; brothers, Freddie (Carolyn) Darling, Johnny (Carol) Darling, Ronald (Pat) Darling and Donald (Shirley) Darling; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends may call Monday April 2, 2001 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 492 Oakwood Ave. after 6 p.m., where family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until time of service at 8 p.m. Rev. DENNIS Clara Ellen Dennis, 94, of Mt. Sterling, died Friday March 30, 2001 at Auburn Manor in Washington C.H. She was born July 17, 1906 in Five Points, the daughter of Parker and Artha ( White ) Brigner. She was a member of the Five Points United Methodist Church, Star Grange and Pickaway County Farm Bureau. Preceded in death by parents, husband Clark Dennis, November 4, 1971, grandson Joey Blue, brothers Harvey and Johnny Brigner and sister Frances McPherson. She is survived by son, Robert E. Dennis of Mt. Sterling; granddaughters, Roxann (Jim) Blue and Vicki Cox, both of Mt. Sterling, Sandy Williams of Washington C.H.; grandson,  Taylor (Lynn) Dennis of Mt. Sterling; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Redman of Washington C.H.; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday April 2, 2001 at the PORTER FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Pam Brater officiating with the burial following in Darbyville Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday April 1, 2001 from 2-5 p.m.

EDWARDS Arthur Lee Edwards, 54, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001. He attended East High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corp., and was a member of Triedstone Baptist Church where he formerly served on the Deacon board. He was preceded in death by his father James Edwards. He is survived by his mother, Odessa Edwards; daughter, Artra Lee Edwards and special daughter, Nayauna Culbreath; stepson, Carlyle King Sr.; brothers, Robert (Irene) Edwards and Johnny Lee (Jackie) Edwards; sister, Vondell Edwards; former wife and good friend, Rosia Edwards; fiancee, Dorothy Black; grandsons, Carlyle King Jr., and Jerron King; and a host of other relatives and many friends. Funeral service Monday, April 2, 2001 at 12 noon at Triedstone Baptist Church, 858 E. 3rd Ave. Bishop Jerome H. Ross officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service. EGGER Wilma J. Egger, 85, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Mayfair Village Nursing Care Center. She was retired from Xerox Education Center. The daughter of Avery and Anna Weinbrenner Watt, she was preceded in death by husband Walter H.; and son Captain Walter J. Egger; brother Lester Watt; and sister Helen Morrison. She is survived by daughter, Christine (David) Zethmar, Manteno, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Jane (Robert) Sotak, Columbus, Oh.; grandchildren Catherine (Frank) Macioce, Pickerington, Oh., Timothy W. Egger, Jacksonville, Fl., and Mary Elizabeth (David) Casement, Kansas City, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2001 at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Our Lady of Sorrow Chapel with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Life Care Alliance, 1699 W. EMMET Henry W. Emmet, age 74, March 28, 2001 at Riverside Hospital. Formerly of New York City, he is survived by daughters, Daphne Denat, Claudia Williams, and Diana Emmet; brother, Edouard Emmet; 6 grandchildren. Funeral service to be held in New York City at St. Thomas More Church, 65 E. 89th St., on April 2, 2001.

GILFILLEN Amy Knoop Gilfillen, age 81, of Columbus, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at the Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. She was born July 11, 1919 in Piqua, Oh. to the late George H. and Minna (Schemmel) Statler. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years William W. Gilfillen and her brother Neil Statler. Her survivors include her children, Lorie Gilfillen of Columbus, Lisa (James) Ruddy of Westerville and Statler (Valerija) Gilfillen of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; 4 grandchildren; sister, Jean Beachler of Piqua, Oh.; and several nieces. Member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church, a Co-founder of Six Pence School and an avid Genealogist. Funeral service 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001 at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, Oh. with Rev. James Sledge officiating. A Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, Oh. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Rd., Columbus, Oh. 43221.

GREENE Thad E. Greene, age 76, of Carroll, formerly of Reynoldsburg, Friday March 30, 2001 at his residence. He was a highly decorated WW II U.S. Army veteran of the European Theatre. Preceded in death by wife Doloris, mother Martha Tussing and brother Homer Tussing. Survived by companion, Marisa Ong; brother, Robert Tussing, Baltimore. Friends may visit 12-2 p.m. Monday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Road N., (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Anthony Sarris, Chaplain of O.S.U. Medical Center, officiating. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estate. Friends who wish may contribute to Hospice of Fairfield Co., 1111 E. Main St., Lancaster, Oh. 43130 in Thad's memory. Graveside military rites by the U.S. Army.

HERSHEY Herbert C. Hershey, Jr., 89, of Mechanicsville, Va. passed away Friday, March 30, 2001. Born April 19, 1911 in Columbus, Oh. and graduated from Urbana, Illinois High School and The Ohio State University. He served in WW II as Inspector General of the 63rd Infantry Division, later retired as vice-president of the Sutton Publishing Company, White Plains, N.Y. Mr. Hershey was a member of several business organizations, The Poor Richard Club of Philadelphia, and the Union League. Mr. Hershey is predeceased by his wife Marian of Studley, Va. Survivors include 2 sons, Scott and his wife, Leigh of Mechanicsville, Terry and his wife, Mary of Middletown, Md.; grandsons, Ryan and Kyle of Mechanicsville. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001 in the Mechanicsville Chapel of BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

KELLNER Edith C. (Schweizer) Kellner, age 78, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001. Preceded in death by husband George Kellner. Mrs. Kellner was self-employed in Real Estate Marketing through Kellner Enterprises. Member of Temple Beth Israel-Shaare Zedek, American Legion Auxiliary Post #96, and the Temple Sisterhood. Life Member of Legion Auxiliary, Ohio Chess Association, Life Member and Honorary Trustee of the U.S. Chess Association and Life Member of the International Club of Toledo. Attended Business and Language School in Vienna, Austria, but because of the occupation of Austria, she was never able to complete. Mrs. Kellner also ran for City Council in the late 1980's. Funeral Service will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the CHAMBERLIN-HUCKERIEDE FUNERAL HOME, Lima, with Rabbi Javier E. Cattapan officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

KIRCHER Marian E. Kircher, of Columbus, died on March 27, 2001 at home. She was born in 1922 on Christmas Day in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of George H. and Lucille (nee Benethum) Peterson. She was the widow of Richard D. Kircher and Cortlandt Barry. Survivors are sisters, Janet Dew, of Medina and Ruth Bay, of Columbus; daughters, Deborah Meyerhoff and Deidre Jo Spurgeon; nieces and nephew, Sarah Jane Dew, Michael Bay and Margaret Bay; and great nephew, Nels Wightman Schimek; as well as many relatives and friends. She retired from the Hospitality Management Department at Columbus State Community College and was a member of the Gourmet Society, IFSEA and the Bridge Bunch. A memorial service will be held at North Congregational United Church of Christ, 2040 Henderson Road, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2001. The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Those who wish may make a contribution in Marian's memory to Hospice at Riverside/Grant or to the North Congregational Church Foundation. KULAS Ella Jane Kulas, age 72, of Columbus, Oh., passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Born on November 2, 1929 in Millfield, Oh. Member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church and the Silver Stars. Preceded in death by parents, two sisters, and a niece. Survived by husband of 50 years, Louis H. Kulas; sons, William Thomas (Robin) Kulas of Columbus and David (Crystal) Kulas of Grove City; grandchildren, Eric and Emily Kulas; best and dearest friend, Ann Close. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Mt. Carmel Medical Center, especially the Palliative Care Unit nurses and physicians who cared for their loved one during her illness. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family will receive friends at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Monday, April 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service led by Rev. Jospeh Farry. LACEY Lucreta L. Lacey, age 92, of Westerville, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home. Member Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Survived by daughter, Beulah Virginia Howard; son, Leo Eugene (Barbara) Stiffler; grandchildren, Bonnie Walker, Barbara Meyer, Victoria Bibble, Monica Price, Grace Glenn; 16 great-grandchilden; 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday April 2, 2001 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 35 East Stanton Ave., where family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. LEWIS Eddie L. Lewis, age 58, Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. Former employee with Ohio Malibu and Licensed Barber. Preceded in death by parents Mitchell B. and Annie C. Lewis, brothers Mack A. and Joe Lewis, sister Thelma Parnell, 2 nephews. Survived by wife, Deborah L. Lewis; daughters, Lashawn and Misty of Akron, Cheryl Arnold; grandsons, Mark and Ailanous Arnold; step-children, Tiffani Stanton and Blake Little; step-granddaughters, Kamryn R., Hannah M. and Haileigh D. Stanton; brothers, Pastor Willie J. Lewis of Wrightstown, N.J., Benny Lewis; sisters, Corene Robison and Jo Ann Lewis; many nieces, nephews and cousins. MERCHANT Charles R. Merchant, age 52 of New Albany, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at University Hospital. An employee of Gordon Flesch Co. for 10 years. Member of Caledonia Lodge #416 F&AM. Very active in the New Albany community where he was involved with Youth League Baseball as a coach, member of New Albany Athletic Boosters; member and past chairman of the New Albany Charter Commission. Preceded in death by mother Marilyn Merchant. Survived by wife of 28 years, Ann Merchant; son, Chad Merchant; father, James R. Merchant of Evansville, Ind.; brother, Bob (Angie) Merchant of Indianapolis; sister, Sue Layman of Evansville, Ind.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends form 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2001 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (on US Route 62, * mile northeast of Hamilton Rd.), Gahanna, where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 8 p.m. Cremation to follow family services. Masonic service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday.

MILLER James W. Miller, age 77, of Columbus, passed away Friday March 30, 2001 at the residence. He was born June 9, 1923 in W.Va. Retired from General Motors as a Mill Right. A Veteran of the U.S. Army of WW II. Preceded in death by mother, father and brother. Survived by wife, Martha Miller; sons, James Jr. and Cindy of Ga., Gary and Nuunua of Fla., Ron and Debbie of Ga., Kenny of Hilliard; daughters, Share and Dan of Reno, Nev., Sheila and George of Ga.; 2 step-children, Gail and David, both of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 step-grandchildren; sisters, Verna Richmond, Lottie and Preston Jennings; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
