MOELLER Iris Irene (Troyer) Moeller, 96, died peacefully on April 1, 2001, at her home in Kensington Place in Columbus. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Paul Moeller of Columbus; daughters and sons-in-law Joan (Richard) Deyoe of Olympia, Wa.; Mary (Michael) Benis of Columbus; sons and daughters-in-law Phil (Marcia) Moeller of Denver, Co.; Bob (Wanda) Moeller of Sharon, Ct.; grandchildren John Deyoe of Olympia, Wa.; Keith (Louise) Deyoe of North Bend, Wa.; Doug Moeller of Berkeley, Ca.; Jason Benis of Columbus; Alison Benis of Chicago, Il.; Adam; Nathan; and Brittany Moeller of Denver, Co.; and great-granddaughter Erin Deyoe of Vancouver, Wa. Iris was a graduate of Ohio State University, a former teacher, long-time student of nature, faithful servant of God, and a blessing to all who knew her. Private burial will be in Continental, Oh., followed by memorial services on Friday, April 6, at 1:30 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 23019 Kellogg Rd., Grand Rapids, Oh., and on Saturday, April 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 211 N. Merkle, Columbus. The family will receive friends after the services. In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute in her name to either Hosanna or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to a charity of their choice.

McCANN Mary Madeline "Madge" McCann, age 80, Sunday, April 1, 2001. Member of St. Catharine Church and former member of the Elizabethan Guild. Retired Office Manager from John Hancock Insurance. Preceded in death by parents Alban and Blanche Colopy McCann and brother Gregory McCann. Survived by brothers, T. Joseph (Peggy) McCann and Alban McCann, Jr.; sisters, Louella Meinken of Chicago, Ill. and Helen (George) Guggle; many nieces and nephews. NEWLAND Harry O. Newland, age 79, of Tucson, Ariz., died suddenly March 27, 2001. Retired from 40 years of private practice of Family Medicine at Westerville Medical Center, Westerville, Oh. and 50 years on the staff of Grant Hospital, Columbus, Oh. Born November 5, 1921 in Dover, Oh. Graduated from Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University Medical School. Served in WW II Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as a 1st Sergeant and medical lab technician. Member of Phi Chi medical fraternity. Member of Blendon Lodge 339 F&AM, Westerville, Oh., life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Rotary International. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Sally Furry (Frank), Trevor Newland (Beverly), Brian Newland (LeeAnne), Susan Rose (Ed) and their mother, Mary Lou Newland; grandchildren, Brion, Brennan, Lisa, Laura, Austin, Alison, Gwen, Heidi; step-daughters, Carolyn Harrison, Janet Collins (Brad); grandchildren, Jacqueline, Kristen (Tim), Stefanie, Lora, Megan; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Austin. He leaves beloved friends with whom he shared his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing and so many others whose lives were enriched by his intelligence, charm, humor and passion for life. Dr. Newland will also be missed by thousands of people whose lives were touched by his medical expertise and skills. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Central College Church, 975 Sunbury Rd., Westerville, Oh. at 7 p.m. on April 5 with Dr. Richard Ellsworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or Grant Hospital Research Endowment Fund, 3724 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, Oh. 43214.

PFEFFERLE Edward N. Pfefferle, 82 of Shreveport, La., died March 31, 2001. Retired plant engineer for Libbey Glass Co. with 45 years of service and also retired from the Shreveprot Rubber and Gasket Co. with 10 years of service. Served in WW II with the U.S. Army. Received Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Member of East Ridge Country Club, Shreveport Rotary, S.W. Columbus Lions Club and York Masonic Lodge in Columbus, Oh. Survived by wife of 55 years, Joyce Mylander Pfefferle of Shreveport, La.; son, Rick E. Pfefferle and wife, Karina of Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Libbie Trott and husband, Bruce of Columbus, Oh.; sister, Betty  Johnson of Houston, Tex.; sister-in-law, Mariam Pfefferle of Toledo, Oh.; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Service 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Montclair Park Assisted Living, 9100 E. Kings Hwy., Shreveport, La. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Kidney Foundation. PIERCE (BLAND) Janet Marie "Reasie" Pierce, age 53, suddenly on March 29, 2001. Born December 31, 1947 to James Harvey and Hazel L. Bland, she was a 1964 Victory Matron Debutante, a graduate of South High School, Class of 1965 and attended Central State University. Formerly employed with Anheuser-Busch Corp., she was also a dedicated member of Bible Way Church and volunteered for CAPA and the Bible Way Food Pantry. Her loving parents and sister Roberta Ransom, preceded her in death. Leaves to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Ayanna Akil Pierce (Antoinette Barnes); step-children, Robert Pierce and Cynthia Webb; grandchildren, Gabriel James Pierce, Asia Akila Pope and Brooklyn Marie Pierce; sister, Cynthia Bland- Jones of Columbus, Oh.; brothers, James D. Bland of San Francisco, Calif. and Harvey Bland of Dayton, Oh.; aunts, Lucille B. Retired from Columbus Hardware & Supplies. Preceded in death by wife Emma Jean Queen; brother Julian Dwight Queen. SALYER Norman Salyer, born August 4, 1916, passed away at home April 2, 2001. WW II Veteran. Employed by Armour's Packing Co. and  Jefferson Local School. He was the son of the late Columbus and Minnie Salyer of Sitka, Ky. Preceded in death by sisters Zella, Cova and Lola and brothers Holdy and Milton. Survived by wife, Verna Salyer of 61 years; children, Janice (Fred) Ward, Norman Jr. (Barbara) Salyer, Linda Sue (Jack) Chapman and Jimmie; grandchildren, Robert, Leo, Danny, Angie, Deanna, Nicole, Tonya, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Ben, Alexsis, Walker; many nieces and nephews. THEVENIN Charles C. Thevenin, age 72, of Reynoldsburg, Sunday, April 1, 2001, Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born January 28, 1929 in Kentucky. Retired from Buckeye Steel Castings. Survived by brother, Clifford (Mona) Thevenin; children, Charles (Pam) Brantley, Lucretia (Bill) Coleman, Wes (Christy) Campbell, Warren (Vicki) Campbell, William (Bev) Campbell, Theresa (Bill) Ellison, Shari (Joseph) Galilei, Wayne Campbell; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. VERIPAPA Frank J. Veripapa, age 44, of Gahanna, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at University Hospital. Member of Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Gahanna. An employee of IBM for 3 years. Former employee of Nestles' Dairy System. Active Baseball and Basketball Coach in the Youth Sports Association of Gahanna. Survived by wife of 21 years, Judy Veripapa; sons, Thomas and Michael of the home; sisters, Carolyn Towhig-Notaro and Stephanie Sivulka; brother, Joseph Notaro; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Vera Carola; nephew, Chris Carola; niece, Pam Carola; many dear friends. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 425 S. Hamilton Rd., Gahanna with Pastor Eddie Estepp, Pastor Bob Stewart and Mr. Harvey Mast officiating. WARDLOW Martha Alban Wardlow, age 78, died Sunday, April 1, 2001. Retired Teacher, Columbus City Schools. Graduate South High School and The Ohio State University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. Volunteer, Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Longtime member Brookwood Presbyterian Church. Martha loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling with her girls and cheering for the Buckeyes. Preceded in death by parents Dr. Emmett and Essie Alban. Preceded in death by her father Walter Johnson, mother Cordelia  Johnson Cooper, brother Freddie Johnson, sisters Josephine Drummond, Cordelia Qualls, Ruth Anderson, Ophelia Morgan and Roslyn Harris, granddaughter Summer T. Jones. Survived by her loving and devoted family: sons, John (Maxie) Jones, Richard Jones; daughter, Sheila Warner; grandsons, Max  Jones III, Michael Murray; great-grandson, Rahsaan A. Strong, Los Angeles, Calif.; great-granddaughters, Alexis S.  Jones and Aliyah T. Jones; brother, Charles Cooper; aunts, Lela Mullins, Virginia Robinson of Los Angeles, Calif. ARNOLD Mildred B. Arnold, age 89, of Columbus, died Monday, April 2, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Arnold. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Reynolds of Worthington; son, James (Sandy) Cramer of Grandview; grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Pisching, Lynne (Philip) Petitti, both of Worthington, Lori Lynne (DJ) Thomas of Grandview and Paula Cramer of Marysville; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Petitti, Anthony Petitti, Allison Pisching, Michael Pisching, Riley Mittendorf and Shaun Sharp; and special friend, Leo Hoops of Grandview. ASHER Earl Asher, age 90, of Johnstown, passed away Monday, April 2, 2001 at the Northview Senior Living Center in Johnstown from a long battle with cancer. Preceded in death by son Terry, 5 brothers Robert, Johnny, Frank, Shelby and MacKinley, all of Hyden, Ky., parents Ples and Nellie (North) Asher. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Mattingly Asher; son, Larry (Sue) Asher; 4 grandsons, Don Asher, all of Johnstown, Marc Asher and Steve Asher, both of Nev. and Robert Asher of Calif.; sister, Polly Asher Dixon-Hyden of Ky.; brother, Don Mosley of Vandalia, Oh.; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 25 year Army Veteran, having served in WW II and Korea. Civil Service for 22 years, a total of 47 years. He has received many decorations and distinguished awards. Calling hours will be held Wednesday April 4, 2001 at the First Southern Baptist Church, 310 Jersey Rd. in Johnstown between 5-8 p.m., where he was a deacon. Funeral Service will be held Thursday April 5, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the church. Officiated by Rev. Michael Rector. Burial in Union Cemetery of Columbus with a military graveside service. BALLARD Robert Ballard, age 81, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Kobacker House. Retired Sergeant with the Upper Arlington Police Department, Gentiles Wine Cellar, Engineer with C&O Railroad and volunteer of Hocking Valley Railroad. Veteran of WW II. Survived by loving children, Scott Ballard and fiancee', Lisa Hill, Trisha (Scott) Kell and Becky Ballard; grandchildren, Corban Kell, Jessie Kell, Jessica Ballard, Michelle Clark. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship at Tuttle Crossing, 5400 Avery Rd.
