He was the son of the late Columbus and Minnie Salyer of Sitka, Ky. Preceded in death by sisters Zella, Cova and Lola and brothers Holdy and Milton. Survived by wife, Verna Salyer of 61 years; children, Janice (Fred) Ward, Norman Jr. (Barbara) Salyer, Linda Sue (Jack) Chapman and Jimmie; grandchildren, Robert, Leo, Danny, Angie, Deanna, Nicole, Tonya, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Ben, Alexsis, Walker; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday in the LONG FUNERAL HOME, 5528 Cleveland Ave. (1 blk. south of SR 161). Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Rev. Burt Miller presiding. Burial Glen Rest Cemetery.

SHELTS Gordon L. "Gordy" Shelts, age 63, of Reynoldsburg, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was a retired veterinary pharmaceutical associate with the Upjohn Company and a member of the Upjohn Academy. He loved the Chesapeake Bay area where he and his family enjoyed sailing and fishing. Gordy is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Charlene Shelts; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Boshinski, Lewisberry, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Linda (Riley) Shelts of Pickerington; grandchildren, Joe, Chrissie and Peter Boshinski, all of Lewisberry, Pa. and Stacy Shelts, Pickerington; mother, Vera Shelts, Seattle, Wash.; mother-in-law, Maxine Jaques, Marshall, Mich. Gordon was preceded in death by his son Gerry Lee Shelts, December 12, 1996. Memorial funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Reynoldsburg Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Cavanaugh officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Interment Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, Canal Winchester, Oh. SKELL Elizabeth A. Skell, age 53, of Upper Arlington, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 11, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter P. and Margaret R. Skell . Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Nicole Ouellette of Upper Arlington and Monique (Alberto) Goizueta of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Carolyn (Mit) White of Tallahassee, FL and Joanne (Paul) Troth of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughter, Gwendolyn Goizueta; nephews and nieces, Paul Andrew (Liz), Peter, Kimberly, Kay, Sharon, and Terri. WAKEFIELD Isabelle Wakefield, 95, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham, NJ. She was born in Austria, came to the US in 1907 to Pittsburgh, Penn. She lived most of her life in Columbus, moving to Mendham, NJ three years ago. Isabelle was a member of the Capital City Baptist Church, Columbus and was a telephone operator for The Ohio State University for many years. Survived by niece, Evelyn Saunders, NJ; great-niece and great-nephews, Elizabeth Gross, NJ, Clifford Gray, Va., Larry Gray, NM, William Gray, Va. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway.

WALLACE Russell E. Wallace, 68, of New Salem, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at his residence. He was a retired mechanic for E.C. Babbert and a U.S. Navy Korean Conflict veteran. He was a member of Pleasantville American Legion and Baltimore VFW Post #3761. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dan Kraft of Thornville; son and daughter-in-law, Russell Ed and Shirley Wallace of Pleasantville; 7 grandchildren, Tera (Sean) Naayers, Danyelle Kraft, D.J. Kraft, Forest Wallace, Gary Ford, Steven Ford, and David Ford; 2 great-grandchildren, Bobby and Destynee; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Remy Wallace of Guam, Henry and Elli Wallace of Lancaster, and Alva and Judy Wallace of Thornville; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosella Wallace of New Salem, Lettie and Bob Quick of Pleasantville, and Darlene Bailey of Baltimore; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice E. Wallace; 2 grandchildren Christopher Wallace and Jennifer Ford; parents Russell L. and Lana Wallace; 2 sisters Pirsila Erwin and Elizabeth Mowery. Funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Baltimore, Oh. with Rev. Doyal McCune officiating. Burial to follow in Basil Memorial Cemetery. WHITESIDE Elden A. Whiteside, 100, of Washington C.H., formerly of Sedalia, died Monday, April 2, 2001 at Autumn Years Nursing Center, Sabina. Born August 2, 1900 in Fayette Co., Oh., the son of Amer and Osa (Allen) Whiteside. Former school teacher and member of Masonic Lodge F&AM since 1927. Preceded in death by wife Inez, June 21, 1969, daughters Mary Louise Booco and Janet Harkins, sons Richard and Max Whiteside. Survived by daughters, Eleanor Keener, Marengo, Oh., Aileen Gerard, Jamestown; son, Tom (Jeannie) Whiteside, Mt. Sterling; sons-in-law, Roger Booco, Columbia, S.C., John Harkins, Columbus, daughters-in-law, Phyllis Whiteside, London, Ruth Ann Whiteside, Grove City; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Dorn, Madison Mills; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 5, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the PORTER FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Noah Robert Dunn will officiate with the interment to follow in Range Twp. Cemetery, Sedalia. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Family suggests contributions may be given to the Madison-Plains School Funds or charity of their choice.

WYATT Mrs. Eleanor Wyatt, 82, of Agawam, Mass., died April 2, 2001. For the past 2 years she has been a resident, with husband Arthur, at Altercare Nursing Home in Westerville, Oh. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, W. Arthur Wyatt; their 2 sons, Frederick and Thomas; 3 brothers, Lawrence, Gerald and Robert Hackett; sister, Irene Stephens. A talented musician, teacher and artist, she was music director and organist for many parishes in the Springfield, Mass. area. Among her many joys were gardening, painting, long walks with her dogs and the beauty found in any living creature. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Citizens for Humane Action, 5505 Westerville Rd., Westerville, Oh. 43081. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, New Albany, Oh., 855-1400. Arrangements by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St.

ZWAYER Lester L. Zwayer, age 81, of Canal Winchester, Monday, April 2, 2001 at the OSU Hospital East. Retired from the Columbus Citizen Journal, and  Taylor and Son Implement. A well known square dance caller throughout Central Ohio and a WW II Army Veteran. Survived by sister, Mildred "Midge" (Robert) Miller; very special friend, Ann Whitehead; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Frank and Flora Marie Zwayer. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 West Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Pastor Lee Gard officiating. Interment Obetz Cemetery.

ADLER Elizabeth Ann Adler, age 33, died April 3, 2001 following an acute asthma attack. Elizabeth was born in Dayton, Oh. and was a graduate of Northmont High School and DeVry Technical Institute in Columbus. She has resided in Columbus for the past 15 years. She is survived by her loving family, mother, Sylvia Hoodin Adler; father, Michael F. Adler; step-mother, Caroline E. Zsambok; brothers, Jay (wife, Marilyn and daughters, Stephanie and Zoe) and Steven (wife, Lisa and daughter, Samantha); grandmothers, Rosa Adler and Dorothy Hoodin Feeder; and many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. Elizabeth is also survived by her very dear and close friendship circle in Columbus. Her family and friends will sorely miss her. We will all remember her most for her wonderfully helpful spirit-she could never offer enough to those in need around her. She offered help unselfishly to both friends and her beloved animals. We will also remember Elizabeth for her uncommon courage in facing life's challenges. The funeral will be held at Temple Israel on Riverside Dr. in Dayton at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6. Rabbi Marc Gruber officiating. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery. The family will congregate at the temple at 10 a.m. prior to the service to visit with friends and loved ones. BALLARD Robert Ballard, age 81, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Kobacker House. Former Sergeant with the Upper Arlington Police Department. Retired from Gentiles Wine Cellar. Engineer with C&O Railroad and volunteer of Hocking Valley Railroad. Veteran of WW II. Preceded in death by parents John and Dora, sisters Lola Owens, Jean Schirtzinger and Velma Ballard and brother Ross Ballard. Survived by loving children, Scott Ballard and fiancee', Lisa Hill, Trisha (Scott) Kell and Becky Ballard; grandchildren, Corban Kell, Jessie Kell, Jessica Ballard, Michelle Clark. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship at Tuttle Crossing, 5400 Avery Rd. BECK Fred W. Beck, age 70, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Reynoldsburg, Oh., died Sunday April 1, 2001 at Mariner Health of Belleair. He was retired from the Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co. in maintenance and a U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Bev Beck; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Tom Morris, Hilliard, Cindy and William Gearheart, Gahanna; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, Josh, William, Austin and Heath; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Lee Jones, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Jean and Dwight McGee, Lancaster.
